Hi, we have a new brown/white springer spaniel puppy girl with no name.

We currently have these suggestions as top 3:

Fern
Fable (Faye)
Harper

We like, but think are very common: Willow, Trixie.

Here are some other names we like: Maple, Opal, Piper, Tamsin, Fenna/Fenja, Alice, Frances (Frannie), Enid.

Please help! 🤗

I have one whose abbreviated name is Fay (Faith). I also have an Alice (also known as Ali Baba or Ally Pally)!

As I said when I got DDog1 as a puppy (quote: "That's not a dog name! Why don't you call her Tilly?"), I pointed out that if I'd called her Tilly, half of the dogs in the park and several toddlers would have come running. With her "human" name, she would be the only one to answer to it! Also, it can obviously be a dog name, as she answers to it.

My next one will be called Eve, if she suits it.

Brenda nickname Bren

DuckyLuck · 14/10/2026 19:18

Oh!! She’s a Dulcie!! So cute. I have a Juniper (Juno for short, or Berry)

Mabel

VanGoSunflowers · 15/10/2026 10:24

She looks like a Diane. Or a Barbara

HappiestSleeping · 15/10/2026 10:28

Energis
Constance (as in constantly on the go)
Enid (Welsh origins meaning spirit)
Aisha (Arabic origin meaning lively)

TreacherousPissFlap · 15/10/2026 16:45

Fern is lovely but quite common round our way.

My suggestions would be
Rew
Folly
Hester
Pan
Tally

Aquasoap · 15/10/2026 17:13

I think she is a Mable. 😍

Julynian · 15/10/2026 17:23

She is gorgeous 😍 congratulations!

In general I think dogs need a two-syllable name. Commands in general work as two-syllable. I would always use a two-syllable name when out to call her back etc, but a name that allows a shortening for home use.

So based on that, I think from your top 3 list, Fable (Faye) is lovely and suits her too! From your longer list I also love Maple and Fenna!

I will also suggest, after seeing her beautiful face, Ember or Amber.

Try and imagine what it will sound like from the other side of a field, is my suggestion.

wandawaves · 19/10/2026 06:18

I agree with PP that dogs need a 2 syllable name for commands. So if you can't commit to Ferny, I'd go Piper (or Pippa!... or Pippi... or Pippi Longstocking 🤣).

Piper.

People tend to forget that naming a dog is not the same as naming a child! An ideal dog's name has two syllables and begins with a hard sound with another hard consonant in the middle. These are the names that are easiest for puppies to learn to recognise.

Piper is therefore ideal.

Armorlux · 19/10/2026 10:54

Piper is nice, and carries quite well when you need to call her from a distance! Though Pip has a different sound, which could confuse her.

Wishimaywishimight · 19/10/2026 11:07

Georgie

SnowFrogJelly · 19/10/2026 11:11

Piper ♥️

Gateappreciation · 19/10/2026 21:12

I see you have narrowed it down to two names, but my first thought was Floss-or Flossie.

CrushingOnRubies · 19/10/2026 22:35

Oh she is gorgeous😍😍😍

from your update I like Piper

LoudPlumDog · 19/10/2026 23:17

Piper

What about Freya?

spiderlight · 20/10/2026 15:11

Another vote for Freya. She's absolutely scrumptious!

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 20/10/2026 15:14

She's gorgeous OP.

My friend has two springers called ASBO and Chaos. Very apt.
