Worried about possible parvovirus exposure at the vets yesterday, any vets or nurses about?

Am looking for some advice please.

Yesterday my dog was at the vets all day for some tests. We went to pick her up early evening and there was a dog in the waiting room at reception. The owner was talking to the receptionist and was in a dog pram.

I noticed something dripping from the pram and thought at first the woman had spilled a smoothie.

My husband brought it to her attention and unfortunately it was blood :(

The pram was full and there was a good hand sized puddle on floor.

Vets took dog back into consult room and the receptionist ran a wet mop over the floor.

My dog came out not so long after and walked through the area.

Today they call to say they are letting all patients from yesterday know that they had a a confirmed parvo case and advised us to wash all clothing and shoes on a high wash. Wash floors etc.

I asked if it was the dog in pram at end of day and they confirmed.

A while later after googling a bit I was terrified and called back asking what cleaning products they used and she said they didn't know it was parvo at that time so it was just normal high strength disinfectant, mopped about.

I told them Inwas really worried as my dog walked over that area right after and she licks her feet a lot due to allergies.

They said I could do a parvo test for £40 on Wednesday so I have booked that but I am just so scared.

I have washed my dogs collar, all our clothes. The cushion covers, floors.

And her feet repeatedly.

I have other dogs in the house and they didn't say to seperate, but google seems to think I should?

Or is it too late now as they been together 24hrs anyway?

I feel so stressed :(

I've never known a vet practise not to send out reminders for vaccinations and annual check-ups. We get an e-mail about ours and if we don't respond or book an appointment, they then send us a reminder card in the post. Are you sure you didn't say 'no' to reminders when you first registered her and got her account set up with the vet?

I know it's hard, but I'd try not to worry too much. Lots of dogs never get anything beyond their puppy vaccinations and they end up being just fine. Just make sure you get all your dogs booked in ASAP.

Realistically, the only time non-vaccination is issue is if they never need to go into kennels or home boarding, or if they get one of the conditions they could have been vaccinated against, as your insurance won't pay out for any related treatment (unless you have proof that were medical reasons not to get vaccinated).

My dog is vaccinated (I'm a dog walker so he mixes with lots of others) but many dogs on my books aren't and none of them have ever had any issues over the years.

I'm really surprised you didn't know about dogs needing annual bosters, my vets send a text reminder out when due, but I dont relie on that,.it says on the vaccination card when the next one due, you will mist likely have to start the full puppy vaccinations course again, then move onto yearly bosters.

@SpanielsGalore your right, as long as you agree to be excluded from certain issues you don’t have to vaccinate

I’m in a very rural area and many people only have the puppy vaccinations and the general consensus is that the puppy vaccinations are enough. There’s not outbreaks of it, and I’ve not heard of any dogs dying from it or catching it

A couple of years ago two dogs within 500m of me died from grass seeds though

I see this turned into a thread about boosters rather than the actual thing it was supposed to be about, asking for some support/experiences whilst I wait to see if my dog gets ill.

She seems absolutely fine so far. She is happy and normal. Eating and drinking. No upset stomach.

Am considering getting a rectal thermometer to keep an eye on her temp but not sure if that is overkill.

I have her booked in for Wednesday for a parvo test as they said it should show by then if she did have it but part of me doesn't want to take her back there right now if she seems OK? Shes been there a lot lately and has been quite anxious each time to the point she was shaking.

But I guess shebneeds to go at some point to get her booster. Im not sure if they would do it the same day as the test?

What test is she booked in for?
Google says they can test a stool sample. Could you take one in and leave the dog at home?

Oh that's interesting as they didn't specify?? I would assume if it is that test they would have told me to bring a sample??
They can't make her poop on demand at a booked appointment!

Edit: Google says they just do a rectal swab/use a loop to get a small sample directly from her colon.
