4 year old toy poodle severe separation anxiety

We have a gorgeous toy poodle, a very easy going boy, except when DH is away. DH doesn't travel too often with work but when he does DDog becomes so stressed he has diarrhoea and vomiting. I thought it was a coincidence at first, but it's definitely not, vet confirmed it is nothing physical.

He has a delicate digestive system as it is, prone to pancreatitis, so he eats home cooked chicken and rice or potatoes. Anything else upsets his stomach.

DH is away until next Monday since yesterday , already he has a loudly gurgling stomach, messy poos and vomiting. He has a prescribed probiotic liquid which I gave him at lunchtime and it has quietened the noisy tummy, so I will continue that.

Poor fellow, he is so despondent. When I take him out I can see him constantly scanning trying to see DH. He is absolutely devoted to DH (the feeling is mutual!). He sleeps in his crate but is very hard to settle, he keeps waiting for DH to come home. I put DH's pyjamas in with him which helps a bit.

Any thoughts or experience of calming an anxious doggy?

Medication. Ask your vet.

Poor boy, how sad for you both.
How much does DH do for DDog when he is home? Is he super attached as DH is his main person? Perhaps if that’s the case, could you take over all feeding, grooming and be main cuddler? Otherwise organise some doggy day care, walks with a dog owning friend, out for a walk with a dog walker? Just trying to make suggestions that will decrease his reliance and build a bit of confidence.

Thanks @pinkandwhiterosesI'll call them in the morning

He is so sad @Sometimesitsmyownfault
I usually do quite a lot with him, but DH definitely does more fun stuff, most of the walks, takes him out on his bike, etc. I'll try to do some distracting things with him to take his mind off it. His tummy has settled down a bit now, but I think it's worth talking to the vet about.

I really love him, but it really is like having a toddler all over again!
