Puppy teeth cleaning tips?

Tips for puppy teeth cleaning would be much appreciated. We’ve tried a wee brush and a finger brush with toothpaste. But he just chews us and it and I can’t really manage to brush any of his teeth.

Are the dental chew things any good?

There is some great stuff called Dentihex. https://hyperdrug.co.uk/dog-cat-toothpaste/dentihex-adhesive-dental-paste-for-dogs-cats-20g/

Above also a link for toothbrushes you can try.

Patience is key and so glad to read that you're actually brushing your puppy's teeth!

No chews will ever be as effective as brushing. I personally don't use them at all, because my dogs are small, choking hazard etc, but chicken feet are great for removing plaque and preventing tartar.

Make sure to never give dogs any chicken bones that have been cooked. It turns glass-like and will kill them!!!

Will go into more detail if needed but hopefully this gets you started.

Struggling when they are puppies is normal and expected. They will get used to it and it will save you so much money and heartache down the road. My little dogs adapted very quickly, just before they turned a year old, and now they get excited when I ask them if they are ready for, "brush your teeth," and even open their mouths for me!!

Dentihex Adhesive Dental Paste for dogs & cats 20g

Dentisept is an adhesive toothpaste for cats and dogs which contains chlorhexidine, a well known antiseptic with antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties.

Meant to add, it's okay if he just chews it for now. He's getting used to the feel of it in his mouth and is probably teething, depending on his age, so just let him do that and brush what you can. It gets more efficient with time, I promise!

Thank you @LuvMyPuppers And that’s so cute yours open their mouths! Mind you he used to hate having his face dried but I hate his wet beard so he’s now used to me drying him (probably helps he gets copious cuddles and “yes he’s a beautiful dry boy now” fusses as I dry him!) so I will persevere with the brush for now. He has his first wiggly tooth bless him, he’s 4.5 months now.

He sounds adorable! Post a pic if you want ❤

Counterintuitively, hold his muzzle closed with one hand and slide the brush in at the angle of his jaw and work forwards with his mouth closed. I use a proper toothbrush not the things that fit on a finger.

And the dental chews are very high in calories - my spaniel resembled a black and white footstool and I couldn't work out why, until the vet told me about the chews.

I find the chews stain the front of my white dogs’ coats.
Expensive at £100+ but I bought the Emmypet electric toothbrush. The pet one makes no noise at all & no vibration at all. In fact you wonder if it’s even working till you see the results. If the green light is on it is working. It’s rechargable & you need the special toothpaste which I buy from Amazon. I also buy a seaweed food additive by Osmonds which is identical in ingredients to PlaqueOff at a fraction of the price, it comes in a huge tub.
