Can anyone recommend an anti anxiety supplement?

I’ve taken on my Dad’s dog since my Dad passed away. He’s 9 years old and is a barker.

He just barks continuously at any little noise.

It’s not a new behaviour because he used to do it when he was with my Dad. But my Dad was deaf and didn’t know he was barking and therefore did nothing to correct it. (Luckily Dad’s house was detached as is mine!)

I’ve had him a year now and I was hoping once he got settled, he would improve. But sadly he hasn’t.

I’ve read that anti anxiety supplements can help with this behaviour but there are so many out there and some are very expensive.

So can anyone recommend a brand that you’ve used and had success with.

Thanks.

Hi, not an answer to your medication question but I have successfully helped barkers by doing 2 things:
Firstly teach them to speak with a hand signal. Let him bark a few times then introduce a quiet/ silence.... with voice & had signal. Easiest way to stop the dog barking in this scenario is by giving a treat. This gives you some control over the behaviour.

Secondly if it is nervous or alert barking, try and say thank you or similar followed by your quiet command.
(Or try and move the dog to a quieter part of the house to breke the barking- if its to high anxiety/ alert)
I time the dog will look at at you with a little bark waiting for treat or just checking if you have noticed and there is nothing to worry about.

If you give a treat, aren’t you rewarding the behaviour?
