I’m looking for some very low fat (5%) dog treats for a Jack Russell with bad teeth and a very sensitive stomach. Recommendations please.

I buy liver, cut it into small slices, grill it and freeze it. Low fat and zero UPF.

Ditto sprats and whitebait.

My dog is on a diet to lose weight. The vet nurse said to throw the sprats I'd got her in the bin as they are highly calorific. Apparently broccoli is good. I've also bought those Wagg low fat treats and give her half of one once a week. She's so disgusted with me because they are so tiny! Oh the grumbling and complaining...

She gets very excited about her lunchtime Youmove tablet though!

Weigh in again on Friday. I know just how she feels!

'Very low fat dog' - isn't that a Bassett Hound?

wineandcheeseplease · 13/05/2026 16:52

Cucumber, broccoli, green beans.

@riverm You can soften up treats by soaking them in boiling water for 30mins or so. My dog has pizzle sticks which are low fat but pretty hard. If I don't soak them, she gives up, but if I do, she enjoys them.
Naw do a good range of treats. Mine likes the beef bladder twists which are 3% fat and not overly hard (I don't soak those)

We got a puppy a few weeks ago and are currently going to puppy training. The trainer recommended celery, carrot, broccoli (especially the stalk) and blueberries

ColdTofuSandwich · 16/05/2026 18:45

Carrots

We buy smart price / Stamford street cooked chicken breast pieces for our fussy dog. It’s often cheaper than a bag of treats. There’s something in a lot of the low fat treats that upsets her stomach.
