Advice wanted on adopting a retired racing greyhound as a pet

I'm seriously considering adopting a greyhound from a retired racers rescue centre. Please can anyone with experience ( good or bad) offer any advice or tips. What makes them good companions? What difficulties have you encountered? I am compiling a list of items I will need ( and may have spent far too long looking at car hammocks this evening).
Thank you in anticipation

Fabulous pets....my daughter used to volunteer at our local greyhound trust where they are introduced to TVs, door bells, telephones, sofas, pinging microwaves, just being inside a house environment etc. Exercise was 2 x 20 minute walks in enclosed areas to start off with, usually with a buddy greyhound.....they are funny though as when they start off side by side with their buddy their pace gets faster and faster!
A lot of people are put off with their thinness and distinct look, but they are very loving and entertaining..... wonderful pets.

It's definitely helpful walking the rescue dogs as I can have lots of helpful chats with other owners without coming across as " 20 questions"
We have been doing 7 am walks during the hot weather and I've been learning lots about keeping them cool.
Slowly and carefully is the best way for me and future sofa sharer, I still appreciate all of your advice and things to look out for/ consider.
What equipment/ toys/ comfort items will I need " if" 🤣 I do adopt one?

It will totally depend on the dog regarding toys, I have friends who foster from our local rescue and they are all different with regards to play, but apart from one who only took a shine to one person and not the others, they do like a play, so I would get a few different toys, the rescue should know. You will know that you are going to have to get the best pet insurance you can afford, due to the nature of greyhound racing, they often have paw, joint/leg problems.
