Help with house training

I have a 14 week pup that we have had since 8 weeks.

Initially we had an issue in the garden so pup was trained on puppy pads by back door. She was good and used the mat 99% of the time for toileting.

We got the garden secured and started toilet training out there. I take her out first thing and she always goes. I feel as though I take her out often. We go out after sleep, crate time, food etc but she is just weeing on the floor in between.
I’ve tried putting a mat down again but she just sits and tears it up.

How would bell training work? I have some cuggl bells for the back door but don’t know what to do with them.

I would appreciate help from more experienced dog owners.

I moved my dog to a bell very easily. I tied one around the handle of the door and let him sniff the bell, lick it etc. I put some peanut butter on there, initially, and every time he smelled it or interacted with it, I told him he was a GOOD BOY and GET THE BELL! As soon as he did, I took him outside to GO PEE. He learned to use the bell to 'go pee' in about 2 weeks. He was previously pad trained.

How often are you taking her out? Every half an hour?

Take her out as soon as she wakes, after play, after food, after a drink, as soon as her nose starts sniffing the floor.

Some puppies take longer than others. My 4 old was trained in two weeks. My last puppy took two months.

Every half hour. No interacting or eye contact except for saying “toilet”. Wait as long as it takes for her to go. Then praise her like she’s the best thing on the planet and take her back inside.

Set 30 minute timer.

Training is so tedious and needs consistency and commitment which is HARD.

It’s quite breed specific too. I’ve had dachshunds who were never reliably trained and my current mutt just always was from the get go.

Ok great. Maybe I’m being a bit impatient then. We have only had one wee on the floor today which was a great day. I’d say we do go out every 30mins or so. She is a spaniel cross so maybe I need to keep the faith.
thanks all

I’ve only housetrained one puppy (as in the others were older)

We were down to only occasional accidents fairly quickly, it took till about 15 weeks before we were getting none consistently, but it was all due just to us letting him out often enough… he didn’t actively ask to go out until much later and that started as a real subtle him just looking at the door from where he was 😂 eventually he’d move to the door and actively be like, let me out, but it wasn’t a quick thing.

Actually with my current two dogs, only one asks to go out, he’ll come fetch you to the door, the other just gets real active and you go, why is he suddenly not settled? and then it clicks. So, um, potentially he’s trained me? But that one is a collie, so makes sense 😂

Keep the faith and just keep taking her out every half an hour, especially when she wakes up, after food, after playing.

It's monotonous and boring. Two steps forward then one step back. Don't compare her to other puppies you hear about because they are all different and it's just depressing to read about those puppies that pick it up in days.

I can tell your puppy is making good progress. She will get there. We used to shower our Lab puppy with praise and treats every time he did a wee or poo outside and ignore the (many) accidents inside.

He still expects a treat for going in the right place and he's nearly 6 months old now.

We are still trying. Today I knew she needed the loo so we went out. 15 minutes of sniffing around without a wee and we came inside where she immediately went on the floor!

That is standard puppy being a pain in the backside behaviour.

Tomorrow is another day 😊

Yeah…sounds typical

I got sunburn housetraining my last dog, in Scotland, in May 😐😂

The plus with puppies is their bladder control isn’t as good so they can’t do things like have you out there for 3 hours before going to the toilet.
