More Histiocytoma or Mast cell tumours

Hi, our girl has to have some lumps cut out next week. She has had one similar done a few months ago and it came back from the lab as a Histiocytoma.

Now, she has developed another large one and also smaller ones and the vet has advised that she does suspect mast cell tumours. Obviously we won't know 100% until the lab report comes back and what the grades are.

I wanted to ask has anyone experienced this? did your dog have treatment depending on the grade?
I am reluctant to put her through an aggressive treatment if there is a low percentage of recovery for her.

I have added pics as reference 😢 these were a few days ago when they started weeping, the small ones dry up and seem to go down. The large one is similar to what was cut out last November. The vet asked the lab to check the results again and they came back and said histiocytoma.

Thank you 😊

Sorry @NippyNinjaCrab I have no experience of anything like this but I'm just hoping for the best for you and your girl. Hopefully someone will come along with some more useful advice soon.

So sorry to hear this. My old girl had a mast celll tumour which was removed but came back very quickly. I got a lot of good advice from a mast cell tumour facebook group and after the surgery went down a holistic route and managed to double the amount of time her vet had spent predicted. Best of luck.

Look similar to my dog's mast cell tumors 6 years ago. These came back as very low grade. She is still here and was 15 yesterday.

NippyNinjaCrab · 02/05/2026 21:31

@Abc1weabc1 did you have them all removed? And did you have treatment for her? I am so glad she is still with you ❤️
I feel so sick looking at her, shes 8 xx

@Querty123456 do you still have the details of that group? And what treatments did you go for? Xx

She had it removed and it came
back as highly aggressive, literally as bad as it could get. She then had others pop up which I didn’t get removed as I didn’t want her to have more surgery. The fb group is called dog mast cell tumour support group and is really useful. Key points are around supplements to reduce histamine which drive the tumours - so dog safe antihistamines and omperazole plus a home cooked diet. None of this was suggested by my usual vet I have to say, just info from that group. However several months down the line another vet at my practice said that the supplements I’d been using were absolutely the right thing to do.

Thank you @Querty123456 she was taken off prednisone a few months ago due to a change in vet regs apparently. I am asking for Pred on Tuesday when she has her surgery. I don't want to put her through any more surgery after this one.

She has been taking Piriton 3 a day, I have just ordered the Benedryl as per that group.

I do feel my vet hasn't been that great with her, nothing was offered med wise for her on Friday at the follow up appointment. I took her the friday before when the large one popped up just across from her original wound and she told me to monitor them for a week and take photographs. Basically they could've been removed and sent away by now.

I thought i would give an update, my girl has had the lumps removed, the lab came back and said they are definitely round cell tumours. They suspect Cutaneous Lymphoma but would not confirm this 100% as a diagnosis until more tests were done so I have authorised for this to be done. 😪
Her wounds are large but she is bouncing about normally and was great even the day after. I just can't believe she could be this ill with no other symptoms 😔
