New insurance for rescue dog - use his original name or new name?

I am about to get a rescue dog and it's been recommnded that we get the insurance ready so on day 1 it has started. I'm guessing I need to wait for the rescue centre to do the final vet check to be able to give the insurance compncy the paper work they need?
Also, if we change the dogs name, what name do we put the insurance in - the dogs new name or the original name which will be on all the paperwork from the rescue place?

I'd use the new name.

I insured my puppy before I collected her. I used the name I call her, which is nothing like her registered KC name.

I've also never had to show paperwork to the insurance company. I'm with Pet Plan. I don't know if other companies are different.

I use Petplan and I don't remember ever giving them paperwork either. In terms of 'getting the insurance ready', decide which company you are going to use and the level of cover you want. Then you can ring them the day you bring the dog home, it'll only take about 15 minutes to set it up.

The name you use on the insurance paperwork needs to be the same as the name you use to register him at your vet, which will presumably be the new name you intend to call him by!

Brilliant. I was going to go for petplan as it had the best reviews. It all sounds straight forward, I think I am over complicating it.

i used both the names, so my new companion had the name i chose and (now) a middle name! 🤣

Good idea using both names. I might do that for piece of mind

Just make sure that whatever name you have them registered under matches their chip and vet records and you use that name when dealing with insurance.

One of my dogs has his proper name that he is registerd with everywhere and i agonized for days choosing
But over time a silly nickname developed that suits him so much better than his real name, he won't even answer to his registered name just the nickname.
If i book an appointment i just use his original name.
