Weird growths on dog.

My nearly 10 year old dog has developed these growths. Does anyone know what they could be? She already has some fatty lumps and some regular cysts which don’t seem to bother her. I noticed three about a month ago and noticed three more today. I did ask the vet a few weeks ago and she wasn’t sure, thought they were just moles most likely, and also said they were too small to take a sample from. I wondered if they were warts but surely the vet would have been familiar with that?

She is absolutely fine in herself.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Is there meant to be a picture?

Edit, pic just came through!

Looks like a sebaceous cyst to me. What breed is your dog? My Bichon cross has about 20. I understand that non - low moulting dogs are more susceptible.

My vet says they are harmless as long as they don’t bite or scratch them as can then become infected.

What is the texture of them? Are they hard, part of the skin or under it etc? They do look like tiny moles. My dog gets big crusty blackheads so sometimes they just have weird lumps and bumps like us but it’s easy to get worried. Do they seem to hurt when you touch them?

It’s more like something on top of the skin like a scab but soft. She doesn’t seem bothered at all.

She does have a few sebaceous cysts but these feel different. She’s a cockapoo/lab mixture, non-moulting so that makes sense!

I’m alarmed by how many are popping up but thinking about it I’ve also developed a lot more as I’ve got older 🤣

Your picture looks exactly like my dog’s (multiple) sebaceous cysts. I’m curious what your dog’s other cysts look like if they’re different to this? Genuinely interested!

Her cysts seem to push up from under the skin, whereas the little ones are more like scabs on the skin. Perhaps that’s how they start.

This is a picture of one of her cysts (confirmed by the vet).

Oh I see

I can’t take a picture of my dog’s, as we’re on holiday (so outing!) 🤣 But hers look like tiny smooth cauliflowers ON TOP of the skin, and they are pink. They definitely aren’t “under” the skin. They seem to be mainly across her back and shoulders, but she has occasionally had them on her face. We try not to worry but she tends to completely ignore them, so we do them same.

Woking925 · 18/03/2026 21:07

You’re describing exactly what I see on my dog. I’m trying not to worry but last year we were told she had osteosarcoma and likely 6 months to live at best (it turned out to be a misdiagnosis), and I feel a bit on edge about things (although I do recognises she has to go sometime)

ps Hope you’re having a lovely time!

Gosh OP I’m really sorry to hear that. I’m sure you’ll get them checked out with your vet, but honestly that photo looks precisely like the 20+ cysts that my dog has had for five or more years. None of them have been anything other than benign sebaceous cysts.

CarrieMoonbeams · 21/03/2026 11:38

All of our dogs are elderly and have several of those - we call them "wisdom warts" in our house! (Sadly the wisdom has yet to arrive, but we live in hope!)

We are in one of those phases where we're never away from the vet with one thing or another, so the vet always looks them over and isn't concerned either.

HattiesBag · 22/03/2026 10:32

Looks like wart, not cysts.

PP who said they're dog's sebaceous cysts are like cauliflower growths... likely not. That's the description of an old age wart. Just google some pics
