Advice on short term care for a completely different breed than I am used to!

I may be looking after a Schnauzer/Border Terrier/who knows mix for 11 days.

We've had labradors for 33 years, our last went January last year, I am very used to their behaviour.

The visitor will visit us beforehand, she will explore the house, we'll go to the local park, get lunch at the cafe, so I can judge how she is on/off lead, recall, reaction to strangers.

Her person will bring toys etc.

I'll make our excellent vets aware.

We'll follow her routine.

Is there anything I am missing?

Maybe have her for an afternoon or an overnight stay beforehand?

Don't be surprised if they don't eat for a few days or have an upset tummy if they do. Personally wouldn't let them off-lead if they have terrier in their blood.

Thanks, she'll be here for most of a day with her person.Time alone sounds a really good idea.

Yes I would have her to stay and then go home again before you are finally in charge for a while. They seem to settle better if they come for a 2nd time, knowing that home is still there waiting for them.

Yes, already looking out the long lead! Would you expect an upset tummy if it's the same food?

Staying overnight? It does make sense.

Defo have them stay over beforehand for one night with or without their human.

we did a couple of hours with owner including leaving alone
a couple of our without
then an overnight
then a longer stay

Also can they be left / crated/ beds?
what can they/ can’t they eat?

Thank you. I expect one of us always to be with her.

I'll suggest a couple of visits, where she stays alone with us on one, preferably overnight.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. She stayed with us for a couple of weeks, all went really well. Slight scare when she was too comfy on our bed with a duvet over her to bother to respond to her name...
