Washing dogs in winter

How do you wash your dogs in winter? It’s so cold to do it outside. We don’t have a bath and one do is long ish haired and sheds like crazy, so DH won’t let me do it in the shower, incase their hair clogs it up (I have suggested something to put over the plug to catch the fur but he isn’t having any of it).

They are too nervous (rescued from abroad) for a groomer.

before I book a DIY dog washing place miles away (which is another stress as dog doesn’t travel well). Am I missing a trick?
what do people normally do? One dog is XL
so nothing that involves lifting or small sinks

I fill a few watering cans with warm water and “shower” her outside. 4-5 cans does a lab sized dog.

Importing trouble - why?

I don't wash my dog unless he has rolled in fox poo or similar. Absolute max of two or three times a year.

With the exception of certain high-maintenance coats, I think it is unkind and unhealthy to wash dogs more than is absolutely necessary.

Towelling and brushing is all that is needed, plus a willingness to let one room in your house get grubby enough to need a post-dog-walk hoovering once the mud has dried into dust

I’ve never used a hose on mine on the grounds of the water being too cold. But then a friend pointed out that it wasn’t any colder than the muddy river he’d just been frolicking in.
But then, he’d shake and splash and I’d get soaked, plus you really need warm water to rinse off the heavier-duty mud.
He’s a medium build dog and so we would towel dry him in the porch and then say “bath” and he’d slowly creep up the stairs looking sorry for himself and then jump in the bath.
He’s too old to do that manoeuvre now so we have to carry him upstairs and lift him in and out and he’s learned not to shake until he’s out on the floor, wrapped in a big towel.

My lab did that classic dog manoeuvre after seeing the bath was being run (not for him) and legged it, after having splashed through muddy, cold puddles earlier that morning.
