Absolutely mortified. 6mos puppy, empty field chasing ball. She's still practicing recall, we've used a secure field and practiced a lot so maybe today I was less vigilant that I was at the start as she's usually so good and stays close 😭

So a woman and two kids jog into the field around the edge and my pup sprinted to the boy thinking he was playing. I just didn't see them enter and she just bolted I couldn’t stop her in time.
Kid was terrified, mum shouting “don’t run”, I’m chasing waving my arms. She’s only a ~7kg poodle but so fast. Grabbed her eventually — felt like forever.
The mum was understanding but I’m still cringing. Long line from now on (I’d avoided it due to people not picking up poo and it being dragged over it...).

Also told off by man passing that 'you know not to have her off leash where you know kids are nearby'… which is exactly why I use this field 🤯 It was empty. I was as far away as possible. Wanted the earth to swallow me up.

First dog — please tell me your puppy horror stories so I feel less awful 😭

My lab puppy was having a lovely swim in a lake with his siblings. He was the only dog who suddenly left the water and rushed over to a picnicking family about 100 yards away and demolished the birthday cake. They were so good about it and wouldn’t take payment. I turned round after putting him on the lead and there were the other 6 puppy owners standing in a row in hysterics. I felt a failure. Still do.

Our Lab cross is 14 months old. I was walking him a few months ago when he got over excited at seeing two elderly Yorkies being walked that he pulled me over as we passed them. I was flat on my back.
The woman walking them said that he needs that excitement training out of him. She made me feel like such a failure.

Just after Christmas my husband was walking him. When he came home he said that he’d been talking to a woman who asked if the dog was any calmer “because I heard he pulled your wife over”, so Yorkie lady had obviously told local dog owners, given a description (looks like a Lab but has mixed colouring so easy to recognise I suppose) and he’s now notorious.

Took my friends Golden retriever for a walk a few months ago. He was perfect until we got about 10 minutes from the car. At which point he realised we were headed back to the car and he just refuse point blank to move. Lay down in the middle of the path and wagged his bloody tail. He thought he was hilarious 🙄 He is nearly 45kg! Eventually I had to ring my friends partner to come and rescue me. 😂

He is so gorgeous I feel you'd have to forgive him anything! You can see the joi de vivre bursting out of him

Did you pay to replace their ruined food and drink?

There is always that one poster that has to chime in 🙄

Absolutely none of this is remotely funny. Keep your filthy fucking dogs under control. Jesus.

Perhaps don’t read threads about dogs if you find them so annoying 😂 and I suggest keeping your temper and language under control before criticising our lovely doggos 🙄

A friends dog (not ds's staffie) who's half whippet/half staffie

For some reason people trust me with their dogs while they go on holiday

I'd taken him to my work so everyone could fuss him and over the road, there is an overpriced dog friendly pet shop and as he'd been so good,I thought id buy him some treats

Nipped in and it seemed that everyone wanted to give him a fuss (which he lapped up) chose the treats and went to pay

As im stood in the queue the little sod (who was standing nicely next to me) locked his leg and pissed up some christmas stockings that where next to the till

I did offer to buy the lot but they said not to worry as all dogs weed up them and he wasn't the first nor the last (god knows why they put them there in the first place)

Same little sod (at a different day) ran up to people having a picnic in our local park, did his best 'im so hungry,I never get fed at her house' look and turned his snout up when they offered him a sausage roll-literally sat next to them with his nose in the air and eyeing up the other treats

Good job I luffs him,hes the reason I met dp so hes very special

(he once saved me from a bloke who was going to flash at me and god knows what else in our local church grounds,i mentioned this on here once and had a snotty mumsnetter have a real go at me for mentioning his breed!)

My gorgeous no longer here boy, we were in the park, he was on lead. He pissed all over a woman’s leg. I was mortified. Mortified. She was so lovely and understanding but still makes me shudder and it was 20 years ago now.
