Insurance cover limits

Hopefully I've just been watching too much supervet recently but thought I would check what's normal.

Currently have two (small mixed breed) dogs. One is 7 months and the other is 1.

At the moment they both have lifetime policies with a annual limit of 7k.

Is this reasonable?

Interested to see what people's opinions are but also what kind of dog you have and what limit you have? Even better if anyone has recent experience of a big claim what was it for and how much did it cost.

Thanks all

My lab had two big operations in one year for stomach blockages, so used about £6,500 just for that. I always go for £12,000 cover because I can't afford big lump sums.

We have a £10000 limit for our lab and last year used it all bar £5. Double elbow displacia and MAST cell cancer operations all in the space of a six week period. No hassle everything paid for even the physio.

£12K for each of my dogs - Golden Retrievers.

Someone I know just had to have their puppy's broken leg fixed after it smashed into a sofa trying to jump up, fell and snapped the bone when it landed. It was roughly £10K.

My friend was recently quoted £6K for cataract surgery for her cocker spaniel.

I had an out of hours emergency vet visit a few months ago for one of my girls. Cost me about £1K just for the overnight care/appointment/follow-up. And there was nothing wrong with her! 😑

I have cocker spaniels and £7k cover.

I went slightly over that one year when one of my dogs needed surgery for a luxating patella. She'd had x-rays, scans and physio to try to fix it before we went for the operation. That was around £4k, I think.

She's just ruptured her cruciate ligament and the treatment for that cost just under £3.9k.

Crikey perhaps I've under estimated how expensive vet treatment is. Although dogs are much smaller than labs / Goldens. One is 10kg ( fully grown) and the other is 8kg (pretty much at adult weight I think but definitely won't be more than 10kg).
Does size make a big difference?
@SpanielsGalorehave you ever found 7k not to be enough?

@stillchasingdereksheppard I went over one year, by about £50. She had a stick down her throat and a luxating patella. I'm only 3 months into this year's policy and have claimed £4k already.
