Does anyone have experience with Shih-tzu Poodle crosses?

After months on rescue lists, we've finally been offered our first chance to meet a potential match. This one is around 2yrs old, found as a stray.

We've known poodles and Shih-tzus but not had any personal experience with crosses. Anything we should know or be sure to ask when we visit?

Our main deal breaker is allergies, so it would be great to hear if anyone with allergies has been able to tolerate them well. Thanks!

We have one of these . We got her as a puppy snd she is the most pleasant dog you could have . She is very calm and is empathetic. If have say ow because I’ve hurt myself or have a pain somewhere, she runs to me and tries to comfort me .
Her only problem is that when she’s in the garden she tries to escape . She is so gorgeous !

If allergies are a concern could you foster first to make sure?

One of the main reasons dogs end up in rescue/back in rescue is because of allergies.

How bad are your allergies? It's not really fair to take a dog on and hope for the best if they are bad/can't be managed with daily piriton if there's a risk the dog will be returned to the rescue.

As a mix, they are typically velcro dogs, love human company and don't like being left alone much. Enjoy exercise but aren't totally loopy if they don't get two hours a day. Need regular coat maintenance (daily grooming plus clips).

Thanks all.

DH's allergies are manageable, we just want to minimise the risks much as we can. Will be having a few visits with any dog we're considering to try to assess the situation. I know there's never a 100% guarantee that a specific dog will not trigger a specific person's allergies, but we also know a lot of people who have found successful matches.

Both our dogs are non- moulting if that helps . One is a Shih-poo and the other is a cockerpoo. They go to the beauty parlour every 6 weeks . Good luck with the search for your perfect dog .

If your DH has allergies then why not go for a pure bred poodle? I understand wanting to rescue but it would be so unfair to take this dog home and then need to return it.
