How can I clean my dog’s teeth or improve his breath ?

My dog heavily resists having his teeth brushed and his teeth are manky and his breath foul. Has anyone tried the powders or the drops you add to water ? I dont want his teeth to be awful but I so struggle to get fingers in his mouth

A lot of dog groomers offer gentle but thorough cleans. DM's Ddog has one done every 3 months. Costs about £40. He was very nervous to start with, but he is getting better. She never brushes his teeth at home, but he has raw bones, and his bed time treat is a dried chicken foot.
His vet always comments on how amazing his teeth are.

Please do not allow lay people to perform anaesthesia-free descaling on your dog's teeth. Here is the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons statement on why you shouldn't.

He sounds in desperate need of dental x-rays and full assessment of his teeth under general anaesthetic. Please do what is right for his welfare and overall health and book in to see your vet.

Dental disease is painful when left untreated (owners often don't notice but report their dog is much brighter in general after having dental treatment with removal of diseased teeth). It also has detrimental effects on other organs, such as the heart, kidneys and brain.

@Dogbreath2 we swear by this. It comes in different sizes. It works wonders. All our dogs teeth are great and a new rescue came to us with bad plaque build up , with this and bones it’s nearly completely gone. Our vet recommended it, I’m so glad he did.

It is not descaling. It is basically an ultrasonic toothbrush. His vet is fine with the treatment he has and has never said to discontinue it.
Of course, if he had issues then he would be in the vet for a full dental under GA.
But that is up to my mum anyway as it is her dog. Mine died a few weeks ago.
