Juet had my reminder for my 7yr old spaniels insurance renewal - £1,489 - up around £300. What are others paying?

Ours is about £900 for our 11 year old. We had to pay monthly for the first time this past year as it’s just so much now! She’s 12 next month and I’m expecting her renewal a few months later to be a whopper. We might not be able to renew. Yours seems even more expensive!! We’re with More Than but on a legacy product which is better than what they now offer.

I was quoted just under £800 for my three year old Lab. That was a £300 increase. I swapped insurers and it's lower than last year, for a better level of cover and a smaller excess.

£804 a year for our beagle - he’ll be 8 in February.

I was going to ask about insurance and saw this thread.

We have a 14 month old Lab cross. We insured him with Petplan as we’d had brilliant service from them with our last dog who was diabetic.

The premium for the first year was £53 per month. I’ve had the renewal documents tonight and it’s increasing to £64 per month. £636 last year to £768 for the coming year. For a one year old dog when no claims have been made.

Even with our last dog’s health problems and his monthly prescription for insulin, the fact that Petplan had paid out several thousand for cataract surgery and the fact he was 12, we were only paying £93 per month when we lost him 18 months ago.

I’m definitely going to be shopping around.

@MadisonAvenue That seems expensive. I thought cross breeds were cheaper to insure than pedigrees. My sprocker was cheaper than my cocker.

I don't pay that much for my 4 year old, but I only have £7k worth of cover. Is that for a higher amount? And do you live in an expensive part of the country?

I can't fault PetPlan. Some other companies aren't as good at paying out or covering all of the vet costs, so make sure you read all the small print if you swap.

@SpanielsGalore It’s for £12k cover. We learnt the hard way with our last dog by covering him for what seemed like a large amount, £5k, when he was a puppy in 2012 and when we needed a procedure in 2022 it wasn’t enough. Even after they’d paid out on that though the premium only increased by a few pounds per month.
