Interesting to watch different dog breeds…

…playing in the park this morning. There was a pair of retrievers playing fetch; a few hounds truffling in the bushes and tracking smells, and a collie slinking round the edges, trying to round them all up! Meanwhile, my own little companion breed sat contentedly at my side, gazing up at me adoringly, just happy to be near me.

It just entertained me, seeing how much they all conformed to the breed types when left to themselves.

I love watching the dogs in the park. They all have such different personalities.

My elderly rescue border terrier bimbles very slowly around the park, sniffing and pissing on absolutely anything and everything.

She has no time for most other dogs because they are, frankly, ridiculous and beneath her.

She'll greet most of them nicely but that's about it, she's got better things to do that waste her precious time on dogs who want to do ridiculous things like play.

Unless its a jack russell in which case she'll spot it from 200m away and go absolutely feral thinking its a dog she has a running grudge with who died about 8 years ago.

Or unless its one of her three boyfriends in which case she enjoys nothing more than a big dick-sniff then a mini zoomie.

Unless its a jack russell in which case she'll spot it from 200m away and go absolutely feral thinking its a dog she has a running grudge with who died about 8 years ago.

😆

I think this is number 4! It’s her favourite you to choose in pets at home but then she also pulls it apart!

They sell them in Tesco too. Ours have gone through about 20 of them 😂

My favourite dog that we meet on our walks is a Bernese Mountain dogs. Absolutely gorgeous, and so gentle that even my dog, who’s very nervous of any dog bigger than him, isn’t afraid of her.

Oh gosh. Mine are TERRIFIED of Bernese Mountain dogs (even though they are absolutely lovely!). I think it's because they're so big they must think it's a wild animal rather than another dog 😂

We had one of those ducks for our lab. Lasted 5 mins because it bit the head off and started trying to pull out the stuffing.

My lab is a toy de-stuffer as well. Why can’t they get dog toys lab tested, as in Labrador-tested, not laboratory-tested?

My dog can be anxious around other dogs, and will retreat if unsure. He knows who he likes (gundog breeds, spaniels etc) and knows who he doesn’t (bull dogs varieties, pugs etc).

My 10yo greyhound stays on his lead (ex racer with no recall), and will walk any perimeter/bush/wall and sniff. It’s his favourite thing in the world. I’ve taken him to dog parks and he just sniffs the fencing 🙃 very friendly but prefers people to dogs - would rather meet the owner than the pup! He’s the most gentle, loving boy. A 38kg lap dog.

@Silverbirchleaf I agree! My lab destroyed and destuffed one of those supposedly indestructible toys 🙄

My dog loves the rubber duck from pets at home! On duck number three we managed to pull all the stuffing out with tweezers so now he doesn’t try to destroy it anymore 😀

Nothing to do with different dog breeds (although for my next dog I’m getting a less absorbent one), but who else is heartily sick of walking them in the mud?!

The Patterdale. A breed which will not allow its owner close enough to any other dog or owner to make friends. A breed which dooms you to eternal solitude, where even the postman won't call.

Playing in the park is NOT A THING. Dealing death and destruction to all comers very much is.

Yep, fed up if the rain! Still, good for the reservoirs, and ducks.

I don’t like the rain, but I can cope with it - I have good boots and a properly waterproof coat, but oh my god, the muck! Dog and I seem to be constantly filthy!

Completely and utterly sick of it.
Went to a spot with some paved paths the other day, just to escape the constant splashing and squelching, and every else had had the same idea - it's normally dead quiet there mid-afternoon in the winter but I saw half a dozen people with their dogs.

I was ankle-deep in puddles in tractor ruts this morning. Even the grassy paths are getting churned up. I'm in a part of the country that gets 21-22" of rain a year, and we must have c5" in Jan alone.

But yes, the aquifers and reservoirs and ponds need it - some farmers are still pumping into reservoirs near me.

my jack russell would have been angry at them all!
