How much to give someone to dogsit/housesit?

I have two 11 year old border terriers. Girl dog is easy but boy dog is a bit peculiar. He just loves his routine and if anything upsets this he stops eating.

When we first got them we were going to go on holiday and tried them in a dog hotel overnight (posh kennels) whilst we went to a gig. Girl ok but boy so stressed so we said we'd never do it again. We have just had separate holidays abroad since then but go away with the dogs in the UK quite a lot - even then he stops eating until we all get home.

Our son is getting married abroad next year and so we are going and I need someone to look after the dogs. I'm thinking someone could come to my house and look after them here. They are fine being left in the house for around 5 hours a day as I work 2 days a week and watch them on a camera. They literally sleep all day - don't even move! So it would be quite an easy house sit for someone really. I would want someone here in the evening and overnight. I know there are companies such as Trusted Housesitters but I'd sooner find someone myself and have a few overnight trial runs before we go away.

Just wondering how much money do you think is reasonable per day for someone to do this?

I paid £50 a day for professional, insured dog walkers/sitters to be in my house 24/7. Which to be honest, I thought was a bargain.

I paid £75 per day for someone last year - to look after 2 dogs and a cat.

I think it will depend on where you live, the availability of local sitters, and whether you could entice someone into doing it for a reduced or nil rate bevause you have an amazing house/ amazing desirable location.

if paying, it’s around £75 per night for someone in your home round here (SE). Cheaper to send them out to someone else’s home but it sounds like that might not work for you.

It doesn’t really matter if your pets are easy/difficult temperament, in terms of how much you will pay by the way. It matters when it comes to getting repeat sitters (!) as quite understandably they will pick the easiest jobs but essentially you are paying for someone’s time and exclusive focus on your home and animals, not the level of input needed into the dogs.

I live in Essex but not an especially desired location and just a small Bungalow so I'm going to have to pay!! I was thinking of £100 per day/night but had no idea if that was too cheap. Seems like it should be ok. Thanks to all for answering.

I paid £80 for a dog sitter to stay in my home for 2 days and 1 night, that included 2 walks.

We enquired locally but up North and professionals were quoting approx £50pn.
