Introducing a rescue dog to my home

It's been a while since I've had a dog but back in the day I was good with very nervous dogs and new DDog is likely to be a smallish dog of a nervous disposition. Obviously I'll take guidance from the sanctuary but looking to refresh my knowledge of what I need to consider during the first few weeks

I live alone and WFH so will be around most of the time

The most important thing is to take everything at the dog's pace. Don't try to force it to do things it isn't ready for.

Walks are not the most important thing. If it needs time to distress, then let it. A stressed and anxious dog won't enjoy a walk anyway.

Have you got any back up support/ dog sitters available? It took three months for me to be able to leave my foster dog home alone and I still need to go out into the garden with her.

Contained space. Set things up so everything is at hand, and Ddog can stay put for as long as they want. A crate or den area.
I fostered a couple of times. One would only walk on mats. Another wouldn’t walk away from the house.

Watch Rocky Kanoa on Facebook. His videos with shut down dogs are great.
