Anyone have experience of Jugs? Jack Russell x Pug

I'm hoping to adopt a rescue dog in 2026. Have seen a 5 year old Jack Russell x Pug and wondering what traits / issues this little girl might have. Advertised by the sanctuary as loving, that's about all. I've had larger breeds in the past so not familiar with terriers

I’ve got one. People have described him as “a real character” and “a handful” which I would say is accurate!! He is very loving but definitely has a mind of his own.
I’ve had him since he was a puppy.

In laws have one. Agree a handful and lively. Very sweet but barks like a seal and is always switched on. Puts on weight very easily too.

Having said that, he has been a very healthy dog well into his teens and great company.

Jack Russells have strong characteristics. Prey driven, independent minded.
They are a breed I would be wary of, simply because I’ve known some little buggers! It probably wouldn’t stop me, but I’d be asking about certain behaviours and would be training hard if it were my puppy!

Ask about territorial behaviour- does he patrol boundaries, look the the window, and bark at anything that moves? Pigeon, postman, leaf in the wind…

Does he boss people about? Terriers think for themselves, and some of them think for you and your DC as well being perfectly prepared to correct your ‘misbehaviour’!

I’ve also known some that are so mellow, I second guessed myself about them being JRTs!

I've come across two in my little town. They've been very un terrier like IMHO. I have a Border Terrier. They've both played nicely with my dog. One is a rescue and nervous of people. The other lives with another dog quite happily.

We adopted a Pug x JRT in August, he is 11 and his history is largely unknown. He is a very gentle, loving boy, totally non aggressive. Little evidence of Terrier in him. Travels well in the car. Loves exploring the woods and will walk fairly long distances.

Very intelligent.

HOWEVER

Barks at the TV if animals or adverts are on.
Barks at the window if so much as a blade of grass stirs.
Scans all the time and is difficult to distract. 0 - 100 in a nano second.
Is very food oriented.

Given that he’s a rescue it’s difficult to separate nature/nurture but the food obsession is definitely improving perhaps because he knows food is given regularly in a set routine now.

He is a funny, playful wee dog and we love him.
