Just found out after a needle biopsy. It’s on his back leg sort of on his rump. Have met with the surgeon and he’s going to remove it but I’m struggling with the idea of putting him through surgery and recovery and how to know what treatments to continue with afterwards.

He’s such a sensitive soul that I know the surgery alone is going to be hard for him and I feel so guilty putting him through it. I always said I would never put a dog through treatment for cancer but he’s only 8 and currently still a happy little weirdo! You would have no idea anything is wrong.

Has anyone been through this with a similar age dog? I know until they remove it and find out what grade it is that no one can give a prognosis just wondering how other people managed to make the best decision for their dog.

I have a very anxious dog and he’s had to have a few lumps and bumps removed under anaesthetic, and he’s been fine. Happy to see me of course.
I suppose it depends upon the treatment and if you can afford it/are happy to do it or not. If you can’t afford it or don't want to put him through treatment, I’d keep him comfortable as long as you can and then PTS. There are worse things can happen to a dog than to be PTS.
A neighbour of mine has a dog who has bone cancer, and he’s just on painkillers until it’s his time to go.

My gorgeous girl had exactly the same. Lump was removed under anaesthetic and she came round no issues. We luckily had her for another 4 years because of this treatment otherwise we’d have lost her a lot sooner.

We can afford treatment. Pet insurance will cover some of it and we have savings to cover the rest. I guess I just didn’t expect to be making these decisions when he’s still quite young. I hate to think of him suffering.

Wow four years is amazing I hope surgery can give us that sort of outcome.
