If your dog has had pups at home, and the pups' dad is also at home, does the dad get involved with caring for them or does the mum do everything?

Bit of a strange one, but I'd like to explain what's prompted me to ask. On one of my socials, there is a group where people post photos of their pets (usually cats or dogs). Someone has posted a photo of their dog which has just had pups. The mum dog and dad dog are both at the owner's home. They are both the owner's pets. Dad dog is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier while the mum is a Bull Mastiff and Staff cross.

The owner has said that the dad (the Staffie) has been "very involved and helpful", and that they have "been amazed" at how dad has stepped up since the pups arrived. I've always thought that with dogs (and most animals), the mum does everything until the pups are able to fend for themselves. She nurses them, cleans them and generally looks after them. So I am wondering, if you have been at home with pups in a situation where the father of the pups is also there, would he get involved with them at all in the manner described? In videos I've seen on YouTube, the dad dog will usually just be standing there looking at the pups. I sometimes wonder if he even knows the pups are his. 😁

We had pups at home with our older 'uncle' dog also in residence. He was very interested in the pups, slept by the whelping box and would sit and look in at the pups. As the pups got bigger, he played outside with them. We kept a couple of the pups in the family. He was their best friend and playmate up until he passed.
As for pups' dad, he was also still around but not living here. He wasn't at all keen on a 16 week old puppy visiting him! Once the pups were 6 months plus, he was a good dad and played with them etc. We have some lovely family photos of our doggy family!
