So scared for my boy

The last couple of months have been shit. Back in Sept my 8 yr old rescue started doing these weird snuffles which progressed to reverse sneezes. They were happening multiple times a day so we took him to the vet. Vet suggested anti inflammatory and antihistamines which calmed it down a bit but not totally. We followed with the suggested 4 week course of steroids which almost totally knocked it on the head, but now he’s been off them for a few days it’s getting worse again. Vet can’t examine him because he’s so fear reactive, he has to be sedated and muzzled (which makes him worse cos he hates it) to go to vet.

While all this was going he developed a uti during fireworks season as he was too scared to go out so he’s also had antibiotics. This morning on his walk there was a lot of blood on his poo and I’m terrified there’s something really wrong with him.

i can’t lose my boy, I don’t know what I’ll do

I’m sorry, your poor boy. What breed is he? and has he had any bloods done?

ScreamingInfidelities · 21/11/2025 13:21

He’s a German shepherd mix from Romania. Not had any bloods done yet as he’d need to be put under for that. Vet was hoping steroids would solve the problem. I have a vet appt this afternoon to check his urine is clear after the uti so can discuss with her them. I feel absolutely sick

I’d take some of the stool with you for testing if you can- may be urine too? could be colitis, looks bad but can be managed/treated. Our JRT had it. Might just need a longer, stronger course of steroids. Perhaps check with the vet before you go.
Try not to think the worst, you are there for your boy, try not to panic xxx

I took samples with me, vet has given more steroids and a couple of things to calm his tummy. Apparently there’s been quite a few dogs through the vets with a GI bug. He was sick a couple of times the other night and his tummy is very gurgle tonight so hopefully that’s all it is.

As for his nose, more steroids and a decongest type thing to see if that clears it up, otherwise he’ll need to be sedated and taken in for tests. Cross your fingers for us! I’m a nervous wreck 😫
