Cone of shame

4 weeks in a cone of shame for ddog1 due to a badly injured nail.
She can't be walked far at the moment as it hurts her, the nail was ripped almost completely off.
The vets managed to remove the hanging bit and have said they want to avoid removing the rest as they think it will heal and grow out better than if it was removed by them.
Either way she would be wearing the cone.

She hates it, brain training only goes so far and she can't be walked much so she's grouchy.
We also have another dog so she sees him going out and gets upset or he trys to play with her and she can't play properly and gets frustrated.

I need ideas to keep her occupied, she wears a boot for an hour a day but she'll have it off when you blink and be licking and chewing her toe. Original injury was last weekend so we still have weeks to go.
Can't wear an inflatable cone as she can still reach her foot as we found out yesterday so now we have a fresh new scab.

The cone is big as otherwise she can reach her front foot so she can't have chews
She's short so can only have Lickey matts when she has the boot on otherwise she can't reach with the cone even if I stick them to walls.
Can't scatter feed as same issue.
Can't run play fetch her favorite game or hide toys as she either can't reach with the cone or she's out of my sight for a second getting the boot off
We've learnt so many new tricks and have been sitting in the front garden watching the world go by but she's a very active dog so she's not a fan of this.

She's aridiculously smart and I am running out of ideas
Thankfully she's not mad about food as with the lack of excersise iv had to reduce her meals

Any ideas?

Our vet prefers fabric ‘Lampshades’ I think they are called Spaniel collars. A stiffened blue fabric. Our Cocker Spaniel got on great with hers both after a dew claw accident and her spay. Amazon etc have them.

This might not help you as my dog is older and was happy to potter about.
he needed a long cone for the same reason but I used stick on Velcro to reduce the circumference. It meant he wasn’t getting the cone caught on the doorframes etc, he could move around more freely and was generally happier.

4 weeks, poor pupper. I have no advice, but your gorgeous pup has all my sympathy!

Have you tried tiger toe socks? They are much harder to get off than a boot. One of my dogs wears the socks and a boot for a degenerative condition and the docks are absolutely the best. You can get them on amazon.

i totally sympathise. We are 3/12 weeks in with a sore paw pad. No clue how he did it! My poor boy is thoroughly over it. Hoping this is his final week. He’s been such a trooper, thank God. We tried a doughnut on him last night but nope still managed to get to his paw.

Luckily my boy is able to play hide and seek as he can reach the ground to pick up the treats. I hold up his chews for him. I’m knackered (as im
sure you are too!).

Last week was a nightmare so I’m glad that is behind us.

Wishing your dog a full recovery x

She jumped on the bed last night and brained me with her cone, I had been in a and e till late so only got a little sleep
She the preceded to steal my pillow!

She's getting into the swing if it now and we can do short walks but she's not as cuddly as before, I think she blames me for putting the cone back in each time
