Dogs sharing crates in dog walkers van?

Is this something that is considered poor practice? I just discovered my dog walker has been doing this and I am little worried as I have quite an anxious dog

There are no treats left in the back of the van though?

And my dog walker is fantastic, her clients let her know if the dog isn't well (in which case she probably wouldn't take it out in the first instance), and she's v aware of the pack dynamics. She knows which dogs she can put in the same crate and which she may need to separate.

She knows her dogs well.

'Pack dynamics' are really not a thing. Really any dog walker (or owner) touting that nonsense shouldn't be within a mile of a dog, let alone responsible for one!

I say this as someone who owns five dogs, all of whome live together and share furniture etc, I would never put two of mine in the same crate. It's a risk that is not necessary to take unless you are trying to squeeze as much money out of a situation as you can.

She doesn't 'know' the dogs. She spends, perhaps, a few hours a week with them?

And her clients telling her the dog isn't well...that's her clients, not her? Not sure how that makes her 'fantastic.'

She may know her dogs well but she should also know that dogs are animals and not robots - they are never entirely predictable.

She should also look at the terms of her business insurance as many have a clause saying they will not pay out if the walker has been negligent. Many also say that dogs from different households must travel separately and be secured as per the law.

The fact that she hasn’t had an incident so far is nothing more than luck.

Our dog walker only has a single cage in their van and all the dogs are in it (it's the entire size of the rear of the van) and she only walks 3 at a time. But they did tell me about it when I signed up and checked I/ my dog was happy with it. The alternative was an exclusive walk but my dog enjoys the company.

This is so incredibly dangerous I don’t know where to begin. It’s also probably against the terms of her business insurance and if there’s ever an accident or incident in her van, they won’t pay.

It’s likely to also be against her van insurance to have dogs unsecured in the vehicle. Shoving them all together in a crate doesn’t count.

No need for the sarcastic response.

She has a degree in dog behaviour, has her own dogs and runs a dog walking/boarding business so I would say she is well versed (better than you and I) in how to manage dogs in vehicles. Thanks for the concern though.

😂A degree in dog behaviour. Now I really have heard it all!

Unfortunately, her degree doesn't seem to have taught her common sense.

Putting two dogs in the same crate in a vehicle is dangerous. If she gets into an accident and the dogs get bounced about, they could kill each other or end up very badly injured.

It's also worth noting that she's probably invalidating her business insurance by having two dogs from separate households travelling in the same crate. So hopefully she never gets into an accident while your dog is in her care.
