Happy/Sad!

So, I’m sad because my best pal for the last 13 years said goodbye yesterday. He was the best of boys. He absolutely didn’t ever chew up the TV remote. Nor was he very late house training costing us new flooring. He didn’t bark at the door so his Dad got up to take him out for a wee, then nick Dad’s spot on the sofa. Not him. He isn’t the reason we have a letter box next to the door and blocked up the mail slot, and never chewed up the post including new DVDs and CDs that were posted through.

He was a strong character who had his work cut out training us up into dog parents. He was almost there, had established that he slept in the bed, ate when he wanted and was entitled to the last bite of the ice cream cone. Going almost blind and deaf meant that occasionally I managed to sneak off to the loo without supervision, so his grip on the household was slipping towards the end. Generally though, he was an excellent boss and we will miss him dearly.

Tell me about your sainted pups? What naughtiness did they never indulge in?

My perfect boy

Sounds like a right character who had a wonderful life. Be kind to yourself, sending a virtual hug.

One of our dogs we lost was a rescue who was the most handsome boy (everyone said so)
He'd had several homes before we found him and he landed on his gorgeous paws.
Probably due to his background he was always seeking food. He was highly intelligent ( collie cross)
His gorgeous guy liner eyes and appealing stare used to gain him food when out and about.
He NEVER begged ( or weed on sandcastles)
On a beach in Wales he went and sat in a huge circle of teens who were having a picnic. He found a space and waited looking expectantly. The teens thought this was hilarious and gave him a sausage roll!

Some dogs know they are people! He was given a small piece of bacon by a picnicker in the park once, and from then on had to be kept on a lead near benches and picnic tables. He always inspected the floor in case anyone had had a mishap with a bacon sandwich.

Love that our daughter named him Sammy McPerson!

I changed names so I can admit- my lovely boy was called Mr. D’Arcy.
I feel your DD would approve @24Dogcuddler!

I’m so sorry for your loss ♥️

My gorgeous boy said goodbye earlier this year, at 14.

He was never one to ignore the whistle, disappear into the nearby stables and nick the groom’s sandwich. You would never see him dive into someone else’s tent if he smelled food.
He never shredded a toilet roll, in defiance because he thought the Andrex puppy should have been black, like him, but he could flick them off the older very deftly.

What he did do was snuggle his mum, giving comfort if needed, always willing to share my pillow. He also broke my heart in two. He was supposed to wait for me.

edited to add. So sorry Op, it’s the hardest goodbye🐾💐

MySaintedPuppy · 06/10/2025 08:38

I love it @Dearg ! They are such characters. A previous much lamented dog certainly never accidentally peed on a potted palm in a conservatory, wrongly assuming we were outdoors and trees are for peeing on. Not him, oh no.

I know it will get better, and there will be another dog in the (far) future. But it’s hard right now.

Condolences to us all. ❤️‍🩹🤧

OP - are you aware that you've left your full name and photo in the second screenshot?

MySaintedPuppy · 06/10/2025 13:04

@Spanador no- thank you for the warning! I’ll ask MN to sort it for me. Luckily I thoroughly name changed so I could be honest about my rather outing dog and his adventures.
Still. No need to go the whole hog!

Fabulous name for a fabulous boy 🥰 Losing them is just so….shit isn’t it?
In terms of mine, how long have you got……
Certainly never stole and ate 24 raw pork sausages, never ate one of a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes, never ate through an entire kitchen door, never pulled over the Christmas tree, certainly never took a shit in my bedroom, nor my car, nor under my MILs chair during Christmas dinner!!!
In my defence, I am not a terrible dog owner, that was a variety of different dogs over many years, but I could honestly write pages. They do make you laugh and it’s worth it but god, it’s beyond painful when they leave. Lots of love to you xxx

Jimmy choos… that must have hurt!

We took a lot of shoe damage over the years, but they were mainly cheap and cheerful!

Today is proving hard. I was away with work which was a good distraction, but now I’m home and am struggling.
I have sorted out the food and treats, all gone to other good boys and girls. Have his toys and beds to sort, maybe tomorrow.
I’m about to plant a rose bought for me by a friend, in the front garden where she’ll see it as she walks her dogs. It can be ‘his’ rose.

Thinking of you Op.

I miss my boy - it comes in waves. A recent family bereavement highlighted the big hole in my life. He was always the one who could comfort family members - so empathetic.

I have his collar charm on my keys. It feels like he is with me - like a St Christopher if you will.

I love the idea of a rose. Although if my bo6 had still been with me, he would have probably pee’d on it.

Take care of yourself
