Our puppy got attacked by 2 off lead lurchers in the park, one of them had her by the neck and was shaking her, by some miracle she was unharmed, we think her collar must have saved her.

My springer loves fetching sticks thrown into the lake near where we live. One day a swan appeared out of nowhere as my dog was swimming back to shore with his stick, chased him down at speed and I honestly think it was trying to drown him. The swan was flapping its wings, paddling on the poor dog's back with its feet, pecking at his head all the while. It was horrible to watch. All I could do was encourage my dog to keep swimming towards me, and fortunately he's a very strong swimmer and managed to get to shore safely. I think the swan must've had a nest nearby; I'd never have let the dog swim in that spot if I'd seen the swan first. It was really quite terrifying.

Two that stand out. Once when she was a puppy, she reversed out of her harness whilst we were on our way home. Part of the walk is next to a busy dual carriage way. How I remained calm I don't know, but I managed to keep hold of her and get her clipped on the lead.
Another time, a few years older, walking her with my dd in her wheelchair. Blind corner and a man is walking towards us with a Visla, off lead, both dogs were, and his charged at mine and had her on the floor on her back trying to bite her stomach area. Thankfully it had a soft muzzle on so no harm, but my dogs screams was just awful. I was just shouting at he man to get his f'ing dog off mine. There were other incidents like this over the years but that one stood out.

Oh, another one. In out back garden she was playing with a stick and then she was choking and sort of moving backwards. I was just about to scream for my dh when she coughed up a small branch from our hawthorn bush, one I had trimmed the day before, but missed it when clearing up. Anyway, it was going down her throat thorns pointing outwards so could have been a very different matter if she didn't get it out.

The other really scary one was when he was attacked by another dog. It was a husky type and had no collar or lead on. A young girl in school uniform was crying as she was trying to get it back. She said it had escaped whilst she was going out to school and her parents had already gone to work. My heart went out to her and we stopped to try to help. What a huge mistake! As soon as it saw my dog it made a bee line for us and immediately started attacking him although he was on a lead and minding his own business. It was snarling, baring teeth and then bit my poor dog on the neck drawing blood. He’s actually bigger and I assumed he would fight back but he was yelping and crying out and trying to appease the other dog and run away (I had dropped the lead in sheer terror by now). I wanted desperately to help him but there was nothing to grab to get the dog off and I am sure it would have bitten me. Finally I remembered that I had treats and I started to throw them in the opposite direction and amazingly this did the trick and the husky broke off and started eating them so that we could get away. Later on I read that you should pull the attacking dogs back legs or choke it with a lead. Well you’re braver than me if you would have the guts to do that! We ran away in the opposite direction and my poor dog was limping and had a puncture wound on his leg and other bites and needed emergency vet treatment. In all the chaos of course I did not get a name or anything so, whilst I did report it to the dog warden and police, nothing could be done. I reported it to the school and the NSPCC too as I was scared for the safety of the child but who knows if anything was done. Some neighbours who heard and came out to help us told me that this was not the first time and it had attacked at least 2 other dogs before one of them a small dog that was seriously hurt. We avoid that area to this day.

Mine choke on his food when he was a puppy.
By luck, I had read how to apply the heimlich method on dogs that very day.
That was extremely quick and silent. i never let him eat without me being around now.

Either when he choked on a chew as a puppy and I had to get it out of his mouth as he couldn’t breathe, or when his lead came unclipped and he bolted into a busy road to see another dog - thankfully my friend lives nearby, heard me yelling and managed to grab his collar 😩

Couple of weeks ago. For context, I adopted a one year old spaniel from Cyprus at the beginning of May. Started by walking her on a flexi lead, then progressed to a training lead. After a couple of months on this, she was coming back every time I called; so I started letting her run free (Large wild park near my house) She's obviously feeling more confident now, and is pushing her boundaries. She wouldn't come back when I called, and ran straight out onto the main road. Luckily she's ok, and is now back on the lead until I can be certain of her recall.
