Dog sticky eye

Does a sticky eye warrant a vets visit? Or can they clear on their own? Been using cool boiled water so far.

It's been a few days, since wind and rain so maybe something blew in the eye. Not constantly gunky but needs wiping often, never really bad or stuck shut just the small amount of discharge, no swelling, whites maybe pink but hard to tell. Can anyone advise please?

Conjunctivitis? If it is, get some treatment from the chemist. Vet told me it’s identical for human and dog eyes.

Sound like conjunctivitis, are they gunged up in the morning?
I think if unsure you could go to the vet, I just get some golden eye from the chemist and use that. But then I have form for using my hamster's fucidin on myself, so maybe not the best person to ask.

I’d get eye drops from the chemist and try them first.

How old is ddog? Past few years our 15yo lurcher has had a gunky eye. Vet wasn't worried. Just gets wiped with a tissue...

Depending on the breed, yes you should go to the vets.

DMums cocker had a 'sticky eye' that fit all the symptoms of conjunctivitis. It turned out to be glaucoma and distichiasis (essentially, too many eyelashes that grow behind the normal ones). I'd err on the side of caution.

All eye probs should be vet checked due to risk of blindness. Then have a chat with them about how to manage at home if the issue arises again.

You could try Hypromellose eye drops which you can buy from a pharmacy without prescription. Don't say they're for a dog though, because they'll get all stuffy about it. A vet told me to use them for one of my dogs. If it doesn't help you could probably do with going to a vet.
