Endogard for worms - dog puked up dose

BlackSwan · 14/08/2025 15:42

I just gave my (spaniel) dog Endogard, which he has taken before, but this time he puked a couple of hours later. Perhaps he has puked up his doses previously & I haven't noticed, I don't know.
He also takes Nexgard Spectra (I know they cover different parasites) and he certainly hasn't had an issue with that.
Any advice on alternatives to Endogard?
I'll speak with the vet of course, but interested to hear what others use.

Mine threw up about an hour after a worming dose, but it still worked

Wormers do not prevent worms just treat if your dog has them.

You could wormcount, very easy to do and then only need to medicate if your dog does have worms. Regular wormcounting is as reliable as medication without any side effects for our dog or the environment.

Thanks - I have actually never seen worms in my dog's poo.
I assume when the PP said despite throwing up the treatment it still worked, they knew that because of worms in the poo after.

You rarely see worms in the poo unless there is a mega infestation or the wormers have killed the worms and they are then discarded in the poo.

People will not know that the treatment has worked unless they worm count. You may see tape worm segments but round worms, lung worms etc are hard to see . Worm eggs are very hard to see and that is what the wormcounts look for.

I have had many dogs for many years and regularly worm count. In decades I have only had 2 dogs that have ever had worms and needed worming treatment.

Thank you lionbrain - I'm going to give the worming treatment a rest then. I'll keep up with the Nexgard

You do need to wormcount or treat to keep your dog safe

Ok. Off to google worm-counting techniques with some trepidation 😂
