Geriatric Dog Woes

Bella is almost 16, just had her Elderly Dog MOT at the vets and passed with flying colours no concerns physically fit and blood tests clear. But she is undoubtedly more needy and demanding and that's ok because we have options if I need to go anywhere for any length of time and she is just as happy with exh and adult dc at their homes as she is with me.
But, the groomers, she has gone every six weeks to the same place since we rescued her, no problems at all in fact she always seemed to really enjoy it. She was matted and dirty when rescued so assumed the regular groom was new to her but she embraced it.
Last groom they phoned me, only two days after vet, check to say she was screaming and shaking. Went to collect her and she was absolutely fine the minute I got her and as happy as Larry as soon as I got her home. Groomers hadn't realised how old she actually is because she is as fit as a fiddle so questioned then whether it might be dementia.
Made a vet's appointment would it be unreasonable to ask if they would prescribe a mild sedative to use before the groomers because I hate to think of her being upset and I can't let her hair grow as she gets miserable if it gets longer.

Can you do it yourself at home? I've got clippers and shave all mine myself.
Or would it help if you stayed with her? I'm not sure I'd want to sedate a 16 year old dog every 6 weeks.

Well I could if forced but she would look a real mess if I clipped her. I will offer to stay there next visit because she was fine the minute she saw me. I have booked a quieter spot too to see if that might help. I will speak to the vet though and see if he has any suggestions.

Grooming is pretty gruelling for some dogs. I would be looking at pain issues and/or discomfort at the standing for the length of the groom.

What does she have to have done? I would absolutely stay with her. Screaming and shaking would be a mega red flag of pain.

Pretty sure she isn't in pain she had had a thorough check up two days earlier but I will get vet to check her again. She really is as fit as a fiddle, vet commented on how good she is, she had zoomies when we got home and went the usual walk with no issues. She's had two walks today, been up and down off sofas to look through windows just a typical day. I had thought it was separation anxiety as the shaking stopped the minute she saw me

Maybe she equated the groomers to the vet visit she had only shortly beforehand. You would have been with her at the vet, but I guess you left her at the groomers. 🤔
