Questions about cockerpoos

Pure curiosity, but perhaps some of the dog experts on here can throw some light.

I don’t really understand where cockerpooa come from. Where are all the poodles?

And I do know what they look like (I knew some as a child so can distinguish them from cps )- I have been interested to note a rise in poodle ownership near me, having only very very rarely seen them previously - but there are so many cockerpoos in comparison. Is the cross always done the same way ie are there just a few male poodles being bred to lots of spaniels? (Rather as with mules and hinnies) And are all cockerpoos first generation crosses or are people breeding cockerpoos with cockerpoos now? And are the results still considered to be cockerpoos?

There are so many because it’s a trend - full disclosure I had until recently (died at 15) a miniature Australian labradoodle and a miniature F2 labradoodle.
The fashion started with labradoodles (initially bred as service dogs in Australia that didn’t shed or shed less) and they became so popular that people started breeding all sorts of different dogs to poodles, the low shedding being the big attraction, as well as they are really cute because of the curly fur.
Some I don’t get - cavapoos are only slightly larger than miniature poodles so why not get a purebred poodle?

Ah. I wonder whether most cockerpoos are Fx>1, explained every there are so many more of them than poodles etc.

presumably if you are keen and committed spaniel or poodle owner/expert, you wouldn’t want to breed crosses at all

Oooh, a thinly disguised wonder about cockerpoos which is actually a dig and insult. How new!

It’s no such thing. I am just curious

At one point there were several puppy farms that had a number of cocker spaniel bitches and one male poodle and they churned out hundreds of puppies.
I'd like to think things have improved since then.

Yes people are breeding F1 cockerpoos to F1 cockerpoos. My sister has one it she really is neither poo nor cocker! It is still referred to as a cockerpoo, but as you can imagine there isn't an official rule book concerning doodles.

People do actively breed back crosses. I have an F1b (cockerpoo mum who is "50/50" Spaniel/Poodle and poodle dad who is obvs 100 poodle) and she hasted tested as 80% poodle.
