Off the back of reading an article in The People's Friend a couple of weeks ago, I've just finished a book called Puppy Perfect by Dr. Linda Simon. It was actually bloody brilliant. Just down to earth advice to use with our newest puppy. It's about a tenner on Amazon and I'm passing my copy on to the neighbour- who just got a Great Dane puppy (I am so jealous but DH says no more dogs!).

Another great product I've been using every day is a £4 snaffle mat I picked up in Pets at Home. I've been feeding puppy's kibble out of it in the morning as I have my cuppa. A one minute activity becomes a 10 minute activity, and she loves it. Little wiggly tail as she sniffs and eats.

And finally an 'igloo' style cat bed I picked up off Amazon for about £15. It's ideal size for new puppy, and Mabel seems to feel very cosy in there.

Can I ask for your best recommendations... Anything that's made your life easier with a puppy?

Gin.

I cannot lie.

Last puppy was a f*cking nightmare. And we were NOT puppy novices by any means.

Pahaha @EdithStourton Love it.

I'm currently nursing a glass of red while Ddog is gnawing on a big Yak bone thing.

We had words earlier as she relieved herself on my favourite slippers (gorgeous new brown Ugg ones) but I suppose we're mates again :/

A more serous suggestion... start training the basics. Primula cheese in a tube is great for this - it's a rare dog who doesn't like it (but see drove-me-to-gin puppy above...)

I sharpened up an adult dog's recall using it - within 24 hours we had product recognition from a rugby pitch away.

Get a miniature poodle, truthfully she’s been no trouble whatsoever as a puppy. After having other breeds, I was worried about the puppy stage but she came practically housetrained, she’s settled very quickly, she’s never chewed anything, she settled when I leave her. She’s amazing.

I read Easey Peasey puppy Squeezy when ddog was a puppy, found it very useful for clueless owners like me 🙈😂

I think the best dog accessory I have is a little bumbag type thing that I keep tissues, poo bags and treats in for walks, I have used that twice a day most days for the last 6 years!

@EdithStourtonDdog does love cheese - girl after my own heart. Squeezy cheese is such a great idea. 2 tubes gone in the Tesco online basket!

@Unilaterallyinsaneshe has got some Poodle in her but unfortunately is a "hard work" puppy. Definitely much harder than my Bichon. House trained??! Now that's taking time : /

@GirliefriendlikespuppiesThanks, your not the first person to suggest one of these. DD has a bag that may fit the bill so I'm going to give this a go on our next walk
