1yr old due to be spayed Friday next week but I don't know what to do...

Dog is due to be spayed following her first season back in May. She is booked Friday 8th next week.

However this is also the actual first day that her insurance switches over to a new provider. (I am moving from Animal Friends to PetPlan) There's that 14 day window where she's not covered, so if there are any complications from surgery she won't be covered for them (or anything relating to them in the future 😧)

I can't delay her spay to go beyond the 14 day period, because I'm (possibly) away for work long-haul late Aug-early Sept (and we still don't know the exact dates and won't until the last moment 🙄) Making being here to restrict her activity/control the environment looks difficult to plan for. It would also put us just inside the 14 day window which makes me nervous, and I already discussed this dilemma with PetPlan when I was taking out the insurance.. so could they claim that it's just tough because I knew I was getting her spayed so soon? Delaying would only give me a week with her before I have to fly out anyway. Is a week enough to recover? She'd be with my mum while I'm away but mum's less able to stop her running up stairs and jumping off sofas...

Her bleeding started on 10th May and ended by the 17th. Is mid-september too late / close to her next one to do it? Is it dangerous if I get that close? Is it bad if I just simply wait until after her second season when the timing is less of a stress?

I read something about there's a 1 in 4 chance of 48hr deadly pyometra of unspayed females.... but surely not within two seasons? That must be for elder females with many seasons behind them surely?

I'm really trying to weigh up the risk of waiting until after her second season or going ahead next week and hoping there's no complications.

Start her new insurance today and move the spay by one week and that should work out date wise I think?

you don’t need the old insurance to run out before starting a new policy

Are you sure the insurance covers complications resulting from a spay? Not all do.

Did PetPlan say they covered complications arising from elective surgeries?
Unfortunately with only having had one season, you don't know the gap between seasons as regards whether or not September will be too late. My girl went ten months between seasons.
I know of two bitches who developed pyometra after their first seasons and had to have emergency surgery. Equally I know bitches who were never spayed, lived to old age and never developed it. It's really down to luck.
It all sounds very stressful trying to slot it in between changing insurance and going away, so I would either ask if you can delay it until you are back or wait until after her second season.

@SpanielsGalore

Well it's very confusing because the woman on the phone at Pet plan said no, but the documentation says the opposite (photo)

I agree. I am surprised, but it does clearly say complications are covered. That's good to know for when I eventually get mine done.
Good luck for your girl, whenever you decide to go ahead.
