Dog rehoming after breeding???

Is this a thing?
I’ve enquired about rehoming a couple of dogs (I mean a couple of enquiries- I only want one dog!)
I’ve just noticed that one of the advertisers also has two other dogs , different breeds but also four years old, up for sale.
no reason given for rehoming in the advert.
is this a thing, to rehome a dog after she has had a few litters?
he is a registered breeder.
i am just a bit shocked. We had two litters from our family pet, and every pup I’ve bought has come from a similar set up. It’s a given that the mum will just live out her days at home.
but now I think about it I can see that doesn’t work as a business model at all if you’re a breeder, you’d have a dozen older ladies in your kitchen!
does this set up indicate a puppy farm? Should I swerve?
should I report??
help!

@SpanielsGalore - just been doing a bit more googling. It seems that licenced breeders cannot have more than two litters from the same bitch in a year without breaking the terms of their licence but non licensed breeders can - make that make sense!

I'm only vaguely aware of it as I spent a lot of time cross referencing champ dogs and the KC site with my first puppy and came across a bitch that had had two litters about 11 months apart.

@CyberStrider That makes perfect sense. Not! I presume none licensed breeders are only abusing one bitch instead of three. 🤷‍♀️
Also, I can breed my bitch on back to back seasons as long as they are September and March. But if they are March and September, it will be bad for her health. Ridiculous.

I have one dog. The breeder banned me from breeding from her , as in she would not allow the pedigree papers to go to her. I’m really really glad as our dog is our family pet. I’m not qualified to deliberately breed from my dog.

I hold the position that no one should be allowing their dear pet ‘ just one litter ‘ like they are human and have a need for puppies. I’m convinced my dog would have been an awful mother 😂 she would have eaten any of the puppies food I’m sure.

There are too many unwanted dogs in the world. And yes I will rescue if we ever have another one in the future.

@SpanielsGalore - Twatdog's sire has about 70 litters, I think.

I do agree there are issues with overbreeding of particular studs.

I am less concerned by Twatdog sire's having so many litters simply because his own COI is very low and his health scores are excellent. I'd be far more concerned if his own COI was higher and he was unhealthy.

And, being very crude, his owners are cautious about the sorts of bitches they let his offspring be born to - no high COIs, no high elbow-hip scores etc. Partly because of protecting the breed, and partly because if you breed your stud with unhealthy dogs, it devalues your kennel name.

The issue with over use of an stud dog isn't the first or 2nd generation if there is enough breeding stock around.

But it's the generations 3 4 5 + that have the limited gene pool. Theoretically the fabulous stud can be 4x gendfather on one parents side and grandfather on the other parents side. Add to the mix that both or one of puppies parents are descendant of the parents from fabulous stud you are suddenly looking at a vastly reduced gene pool.

I also think that people a delusional if they think anyone is breeding for some kind of altruistic reason. Show breeders want the next show winner and if their dog would win something as prestigious as Crufts, they will breed them as much as they can, cashing in on their kennel name.
