What is your dog's eating schedule?

after yet another breakfast refused I'm seriously considering feeding my one year old 7.5kg cockerpoo just once a day at 9pm at night!

She's soooooooo unbothered about food (why can't I be like her 😂), and if I put the bowl down when mercury happens to be in retrograde or or some bonkers reason she just shrugs and walks off. I mean, she doesn't shrug but if dogs could shrug she definitely would be.

The gymnastics I do to try and get her to eat a full portion.... licky rings, mats, various contraptions. It's a struggle most days to get her to eat even half of what she "should" eat.

She just doesn't care much about food, even treats.

Does anyone else have a small dog who only eats one meal a day? I feel like she'd respond better at night time to food but is it bad for small dogs to only eat once?

photo tax duly paid! 👇

One year
7.5kg
Raw Fed 80/10/10
Fussy bugger
Thinks fruit and veg are the devil's food
80% poodle 20% various spaniels

@BestIsWest - this is what I thought having a dog would be like! One that comes running as soon as they hear a sound that means food and constantly scrounging for food! Just goes to show I didn't really have any idea at all about dogs when I got her! Or the idea that I had was formed from cheeky spaniels and never-full labs.

@Coffee93 - she would sell her soul for cheese and I have tried that before but she just delicately picks the grated cheese out and the sodds off!

Its just so weird when she will go two or three days without eating for seemingly no reason at all? Maybe I need to reframe it in my mind - a human would never do that for no good reason but maybe dogs are just different

Is this your first dog, OP? Don't worry too much about it. All dogs are different- my current border collie just eats once officially at night (and sometimes does some unofficial scavenging earlier... damn the local kids who chuck their chicken shop leftovers everywbere!). They eat when they are hungry and drink when they are dry. A tiny little poodle-mutt is probably going to be quite fine with one meal, whenever. She looks perfectly lovely and fine.

If your vet raises concerns at her next check up, that's different. Otherwise, don't overthink. The experiences of other dogs owners don't matter much. The feeding schedule of a Great Dane or Rottie or Pyrenees Mountain Dog is not going to have any relevance to a 7.5kg poodle-mix who isn't very hungry.

Yep @Iwillclasptheeagain indeed she's my first dog

she clearly just sees food as an unemotional, practical means to an end which as an emotional over eater myself I just cannot wrap my head around 😵‍💫

Lol, they are a puzzle. She looks touch wood very healthy. If you really are wondering perhaps a vet could put your mind at rest that she is OK as she is. My dog weighs more than three times what yours does and my dog barely seems to eat, either. They are wonders of physics!

(Perhaps you need a lab next time? You will find it easy to curb your own eating because the dog will intercept everything before it gets to your mouth. My brother has a lab and I never get to eat a damn thing at his house lol)

We have a 4 year old Wire Haired Viszla.

He was a fussy eater initially and we tried various things inc raw food.

For the last year he’s been having a combination of Millie Wolfheart country side mix, half a pack of Forth glade wet food and a bit of veg on the side. Has this twice a day and loves it.

plus has DH round his not so little paw and so scrounges various treats and snacks
