My 4 year old little terrier/poodle cross, usually totally full of beans, had a rabies shot on Friday evening as we plan to take her abroad in summer. She was a bit subdued over weekend but nothing too bad, then monday morning woke up yelping in pain - a lot of yelping. She continued to yelp randomly and when being picked up all through monday, and to be tense to the touch and under the weather. Last night she woke at 3 am yelping and this morning too. I took her to the vet this morning who checked her over and gave her painkillers and said to keep an eye. He commented on her gait being quite stiff and potentially a joint issue. I know it's cautious not to do too many tests too early, and he did admit it might be vaccine related but should be transient in that case, but I've never seen her like this and I am worried. Has anyone any ideas what it might be? I tried to pick her up carefully an hour ago and the yelping was awful. I can't ring the vet back now very easily when they've just seen her but so worried about her. She is eating and drinking a bit.

I would find an animal mctimmoney practitioner and take him there, they will have a lot of knowledge about musculoskeletal stuff. Sorry, hope they improve soon. But if you think the painkillers aren't enough then do go back to the vet

thankyou! I'm keen to find the root of what is causing the pain in the first instance, but can look them up.

Vaccination reaction - very common unfortunately. For me they triggered autoimmune diseases I had no symptoms of at all and I ended up with lupus and 3 types of arthritis all overnight after the vaccination for Africa. Have the vets not given you some painkillers to give him till hopefully the side effects wear off? Vaccinations cause pain in children and adults that can last at least a week. Both my children were in agony after each of their childhood vaccinations and we gave them painkillers and anti histamines before each one to help after that.

I am sorry to hear that. Yes we've had some crappy reactions to jabs in the past but nothing like this. it seems to be some sort of arthritic condition but I have no real idea. Hoping it's transient. She has been given painkillers yes. She's quite a small dog and it's quite a big jab so maybe the reaction is more likely. Just hope it's nothing long term. Hope you are ok.
