A question for mini schnauzer owners - old age

Mine is 13 next month and has kidney disease, thyroid disease, kissing spine and arthritis.

In spite of all of the above, she is fighting fit. Still barking (obvs), active, eating, playing. She’s slower in the heat but she just doesn’t seem ‘old’. People who meet us on walks are often shocked that she’s not young, or even a puppy!

I know no one really knows - but does anyone have any great tales of their mini going much past 13 - I’ve always had it in my head this is when we’ll lose her?

You’ll all know this feeling I have - I love the bones of this dog and it will be horrendous when she goes / I’d just like some idea - based on experience.

Thank you.

Miniature Schnauzers are beautiful dogs. We had one growing up, he lived until 15.5. He had no illnesses up until the last week or so of his life and it was a brain tumour he had. It’s been 13 years now since we lost him and we still talk about him 🐾

Following as also have an MS of a similar age. She has slowed down but still loves life. On my local schnauzer FB group there have been several reaching 14/15.Like you i dread the day.

Thank you for the replies - I don’t know, she seems sleepier and slower and it has cooled down. I just wish I knew then I could prepare. I need to keep repeating to the family that we need to give her the best final whatever time she has.

When I say sleepier and slower, I mean not on HIGH ALERT 24/7. She is a schnauzer, after all….
