Looking for advice- been nipped twice by another dog in a training session

Hi
a bit embarrassing, but I take my (dog selective) dog to some local fun man trailing/sniffer dog sessions, and at these, there is a collie X that has a dislike to me (I don’t blame him, I don’t like myself either!)

But twice, he’s had a pop at me - lunged and nipped me on the knee. Once it was just his mum and me, but then the next time it was in front of the trainer. (No skin broken but a nip is a nip)

they both asked if I was ok, which I am - but also I’m not, if you see what I mean. I’m not scared of dogs, but I’ll avoid him in future

i don’t (try not to) antagonise him, I don’t look at him, I give him space (although not enough obviously 😳). The first time I met him I approached his car, his mum shouted at me that he’s protective of the car, so yes that was my fault for approaching her car (I was supposed to be the misper for him to find at that session)

I will say I don’t want to interact with him again if we’re on the same session, but otherwise should I just let it go? I don’t want to cause a scene or rock the boat, but equally I quite like having all my fingers and toes!

I know I’m responsible for myself, just felt the situation was handled a bit crap both times.

any thoughts? (Sorry for bad English, proper sentences)

He should be muzzle trained. We do pet trailing and there are a few dogs who do it in muzzles. It's not ok for him to be nipping people and the trainer should have said this too. I would quietly have a word and let her know it's not the first time it's happened as she might not be aware.

I agree, talk to the trainer. Nipping is never OK and with the type of training/ activity you are doing it can turn serious very quickly if this isn't stopped now.

Muzzle is obviously a short term solution, but I would question if the dog is suitable for this type of training. Ok it's a bit of fun for the owners, but dogs don't have a concept for fun.
