We've exceeded our 10k pet insurance limit

Our DDog randomly develop pleural effusions and abdominal ascites. She's had numerous investigations and nearly a two week stint in doggy ICU including surgeries to get biopsies and she also suffered a cardiac arrest.

We have pet insurance cover up to 10k and tonight we've realised we have now exceeded that and DDog is no better then she was two weeks ago.

She's only four. She was a fit and healthy Labrador and if you were to look at her, you wouldn't think anything is wrong.

She's the goodest good girl and I'm heartbroken about the current situation.

Her abdomen is draining up to 1l of fluid a day via abdominal drain. She has a permanent chest port.

I don't know where we draw the line?

She's in a specialist animal hospital.

I just needed to get this out somewhere.

Oh bless her. What a beautiful picture and a lovely dog.
You've given her a good home op, and she's had the best treatment they could give. I hope that she can continue to be a happy dog with you for as long as she's got. It's heartbreaking that they can't help her more, and it seems so unfair that she's got something so undiagnosable, but you can at least reassure yourselves that you've given her a good life and a good home. Not every dog gets that.

Ahh OP she’s gorgeous ❤️. So sorry you’re all going through this. I don’t like repeating this but all I can do is tell you our story. We had a similar situation with our seemingly fit and healthy girl (this was over ten years ago). Not the same illness, whatever your girl has, but another situation that no one could diagnose. It seemed it was an issue with her lungs but absolutely nothing came back positive in terms of diagnosis. We also spent thousands and went over the insurance. She was in a specialist hospital many times overnight. Wasn’t lung worm, wasn’t lung collapse, wasn’t cancer, wasn’t her heart etc etc. if they could have told us what was wrong I think I could have made the decision to say goodbye to her but because no one could work out what was going wrong for some reason I just kept thinking we should give her a bit more of a chance. Sadly, on one more trip to yet another specialist who had been suggested, she died in the car en route, she was probably scared and in distress. I will never get over it and I often, even now, think if only I had made the decision for her sooner. I feel like I failed her. We were utterly devastated, even the nurses and the vet were crying. It was not the quiet and peaceful end she deserved. People always say it is the last kind thing we can do for them. I wish you well and hope for the best but if that is not possible then I hope you can do her that kindness. I really feel for you and your beautiful dog ❤️

@OhPolly She looks like she is living her absolute best life. You’ve given her a lovely, loving home and every chance at getting better.

She will love being at home in her safe space.

give her loads of cuddles and all the best treats.
