Using kibble as high value treat?

Hello

My dog has some behaviour issues I want to work on and at the same time is very motivated by food. Unfortunately lots of treats are required during the training. I was initially using some dog treats but they were upsetting the stomach of my dog, I now use just the regular kibble and getting away with it. But my dog trainer suggested using higher value treats would deliver better results.

I was wondering if buying different type of kibble ie rabbit or something like that and using it for training only would do the trick? Or do I need proper treats? I don't mind buying them but as I mentioned higher volume upsets my dogs stomach.

All dogs are different but mine wouldn’t consider that high value. I use training pate or Millie’s wolfheart fish treats broken in half as my high value treats as they can both form part of her meal (she is only 6.5 Kg).

Kibble for basic stuff. Something better for jackpots

Mine gets her wet tray food cut up into chunks and then I put her cold pressed biscuits in the food processor and cover the meat chunks in that. It makes for pretty good training/bribe treats..
I also use Anco pate which is good
When she needs a really high reward she gets a piece of dried lung or spleen which is like crack to her.

She's got a sensitive tummy too so giving her regular food keeps things simple for her digestion. It also keeps the fat down which is crucial for her.

If you want to try rabbit, I'd try hairy rabbit ears. I find they help her digestive system. Again, quite high in fat so she gets only half a day. They aren't training treats but they might helps your dog's digestion too.

Edited to say, cooked white fish is also good. I use the biscuit dust on that too.

Our dog is given kibble as his treats. I'm not pandering to the dog, he absolutely has no problem doing what I ask of him.

I have a treat jar, which has a mix of different treats as well as some normal food. Anything that comes out of the jar is exciting, because it’s a treat and smells a bit more like a treat, even if it’s normal dinner. But we also use liver paste and cheese for really high value treats.
