I've two dogs a chihuahua and a Pomeranian I used to let them in living room at night , but the pom trashed me living room. I've tried separating them but it just makes the pom worse. Any tips to keep the pom quite before the neighbours start complaining.pic of the pair of them.

No answers but cute dogs!

is dog bored? Dogs bark for a reason. What’s the reason?

Wigtopia · 25/05/2025 07:35

How old are they, how long have you had them?

Gundogday · 25/05/2025 07:37

Get a dog pen and let them sleep in there?

Most dogs might bark for a reason - but these two breeds are known for being yappy. This is going to be a training issue that OP needs to address with a qualified individual

Going to need a lot more information before giving any useful advice. Where do they sleep now? What do you mean, trashed? When do you separate them? How does it make the Pom worse? You suggest barking but that's not the problem you originally mention. Is there more than one problem? When do the problems happen?

The chi is one the pom is 4 months I've tried to separate them in there own cages but the pom just barks untill I let them sleep together. I left them in my living room one night and he absolutely ripped everything he could get also pooed on my table and couch. Had the chi from 8 weeks and she never barked as much as the pom.

OK, sounds like the Pom isn't house trained, and as he's just a puppy, no, you won't be able to leave him on his own overnight without risking things being chewed and him having accidents. Why is the Chi in a crate overnight? At his age he should be able to roam free. One way to sort this is to bring the Pom into your bedroom so you can wake when he needs to go out, and that will make sure he's being properly toilet trained overnight, while the Chi can have the run of downstairs. You still aren't explaining the barking. Are you leaving them alone?

TealSwan · 25/05/2025 20:01

No I'm home most of the time unless I've to nip to supermarket. The chi is used to the crate .but the pom hates it even tho both of them slept in crates at breeders homes. I live in a detached bungalow.

My pup was in a crate at the breeders too, but with all his litter mates - it’s different for them once they’re with you. Can you take the baby into your room till he’s sleeping through the night without accidents? I don’t know much about Poms, but barking puppies usually just want to be near you and he is only a baby still.

faerietales · 26/05/2025 00:24

The Pom is a baby - let them sleep with you until they’re settled.

TealSwan · 04/06/2025 07:49

I've tried everything both in kitchen in a huge crate. Tried both in my bedroom and it's chaos.evey morning the pom is barking at 5 Am l. I've already had letters and neighbours complaing about his barking. So when he barks I've to get up every morning around 5am come 6pm I'm zzz

Then you need to look at their routines - last meals, toilet breaks etc.

SpanielsGalore · 04/06/2025 10:09

The pom is still a baby. 5 a.m. is his wake up time and I am afraid you have to get up with him. Hopefully he'll sleep later as he gets older.
There was another puppy owner posting about her puppy being an early riser a few weeks ago. My 3 year old was up at the crack of dawn for months as a puppy. I think she was around 6 months old before she slept until a reasonable time. She happily sleeps in until 8 now.

faerietales · 04/06/2025 11:45

I’m not really convinced that 5am is normal for puppies - they may need a wee at that time, or be hungry, or lonely, but otherwise there’s no reason for them to be getting everyone up to start the day at 5 o’clock.

Well I would try taking them out for the toilet and settling back down. But if he won't resettle, is barking and annoying the neighbours, then surely you have to get up. 🤷‍♀️ My puppy used to wake at around 3 for a wee and then be up at 6.

Oh I’m not saying you just let them bark at 5am, but more that it’s probably a routine issue that’s causing them to get up at that time, rather than a “puppy thing” if that makes sense.

TealSwan · 07/06/2025 11:03

As soon has he barks around 5 ISH I've to get up no wonder I go to bed early ...
