Herding ball recommendations for collies or corgis?

I've got a Pembroke Welsh Corgi who loves herding his ball round the garden - he's currently on a 8" Boomer Ball which he propels at terrifying speeds, bouncing it off the fence, off a tree, etc, etc. God knows what chaos he'd have achieved with actual herdable livestock. The only downside to his fun is that the scuffs on the hard plastic are scratching his nose to pieces.

I've been tempted by the Race & Herd inflatable ball, since the CollieBall (which has better reviews) doesn't seem to be available in the UK. But it's nearly £60 and has very mixed reviews on Amazon. Has anyone with a collie or corgi or maybe a small pony got any recommendations for herdable balls?

I have the same issue with my dogs nose and the herding ball. I was thinking about covering it in bubble wrap🤣

I bought my Swiss mountain dog a herding ball from eBay! It’s huge and he loves it
it’s like a large exercise ball in a canvas cover - blue with an orange ‘handle’ so he can drag it around
was only about £26 - they do various sizes
(Sorry I can’t link but a search on eBay should work)

so after confiscating the offending scuffed boomer ball for two days, I’ve succumbed to my corgi’s ’where is my blue ball?’ sad face, and ordered the Race & Herd ball for him to bully round the garden. Will update on how long it lasts!

As an update, the Race & Herd ball lasted under 10 mins before the outer cover snagged - so it’s back to the drawing board, possibly via eBay!

I bought a ball to replace one that my dog (collie cross) destroyed. It it’s quite round and rolls oddly, and it squeaks and makes a trundling noise. It wasn’t intended as a herding ball but he can’t pick it up (this wasn’t intentional, I’m rubbish with sizes), ok he has occasionally for a second or two, then he drops it. So far no scratches or scuffs and it has been inside and out. You do need ear defenders though, my lad makes a heck of a noise chasing it about. I think there are different sizes.

The plastic ones are challenging aren't they. The very properties that make them indestructable also make them a source of knocks for the dog and devastation for the house/garden!

My terrier adores his. When he won't come in from the garden late at night, we shout "Big Ball!!" and he comes haring in.

It is the nuclear option though, as we then have to give him a short burst with the ball (so as not to prove ourselves liars), and that is a few seconds of sheer CHAOS just before bedtime.

Will def google all the suggestions on this thread.

The boomer calls are superb, we gf ave a couple also.

Surpridingly, another favourite ball is a huge tennis ball (Megavall brand). He has squashed it, but our dog loves it, and plays with it a lot.

Just bringing this thread back to life to see if anyone came up with a good option? My rescue Corgi mix puppy LOVES herding us. We've finally got him to stop thanks to his incessant need for attention and us heading over the dog gate as soon as he nipped us but I want to give him something else to fill that void.

Nothing, sadly, came close to the Boomer ball - it’s the weight/smoothness/speed of the thing - and DCorgi’s now graduated to the even bigger red version, although it has to be strictly rationed, due to the nose impact. He sits mournfully outside the downstairs loo where it’s ’having a rest’ until it is allowed out to be harassed.

a cheap Aldi football did ok for a while but he nipped the cover off it until it looked like the prize car in Father Ted, and now it won’t roll. I will have a look at the massive tennis ball, though…

My collie just had whatever football he could steal off dc and used tennis balls from the tennis club, no longer with us but he worked those balls until aged 12 his joints started to fail
