I’ve had golden retrievers all my life, since I was a young child and I have never had one who has been as wild as the one I have now!

She’s a lovely girl, but my god, she loves and is excited by everything.

She is 15 months now and over the last two weeks, it’s like a switch has flipped. She is so much calmer (still not calm calm, but she doesn’t act like the Tasmanian devil every second she’s awake like she did before), walks are getting easier, despite professional and ongoing training everyday at home since she was 4 months old, she still pulled like a train and would dart - suddenly, the training seems to have clicked.

Oh man, she was a hard puppy, but now I can see what an amazing adult dog she will be and it’s so lovely.

It’s so lovely when it finally clicks for them, isn’t it? And yet so awful when you’ve had amazing Goldies and you finally end up with the nitwit of the litter who is a complete lunatic.

My boy was two before he finally stopped being a massive twit and, honestly, some days he made me feel like I never wanted another Goldie ever. Yet now, he’s almost certainly the best Goldie I’ve ever had.

Sometimes I think the harder they are as puppies, the better adult they make because it takes so much more to get them there! Fingers crossed your girl continues to calm 😊

Honestly, sometimes I’d be tearing my hair out 🤣 especially when we had people over and she would go wild. We’d have to keep her in her crate, or on a short lead and even then, it was a nightmare.

We are all out in the garden now, all the children, our. friends and their children and she’s following the kids around and playing with them, but no jumping or going wild with excitement like she used to when we had guests over. This is so much better for her and everyone else!
