Kennels or dog sitters for a rescue dog

Does anyone have any tips on choosing a kennels or dog sitter to look after a rescue dog for a few days? I have a 3-year-old Romanian rescue dog, who I adopted eight months ago. She's always come with me on short breaks and has never spent a night away from me. She's not as nervous as she used to be around people (now she expects them to give her treats!) but I worry that she might stress if I'm not there. I don't get many visitors so not sure what she'd be like with a dog sitter.

When are you going away ?
I started introducing my rescue to a dog walker who also did dog sitting about 4 months before we went on holiday. She took him for a walk once a week then stayed with him when we went away. It went really well.
He’s happy to stay at her house now aswell and I can relax knowing he’s relaxed. I just got her to do one or two walks before now to re introduce her.

I think @Wells37 's suggesting is ideal. We used to have an amazing walker who would stay in our home when we went away. It's expensive, but it was the last disruptive to their wellbeing.

That's a brilliant idea, thank you. I'll start looking for a dog walker/sitter and start off with walks.

I would always go dog sitter where possible either in your house or theirs.

I would always recommend a sitter or home boarder for a nervous rescue - ideally a sitter who comes to your home as then at least your dog is surrounded by as much familiar stuff as possible.

I'm a sitter myself and recently did a sit for a very nervous puppy farm rescue. We built it up over two months - first I just visited for a cup of tea while the owners were home, then we progressed to walks (while owners were home) then me coming in for walks when nobody was home, then an overnight sit. She was still a bit nervous but it was very manageable and she was very well behaved :)
