Just that really! I’ve googled but looking for real life experience please. It’s for a rash rather than a cut.

I don't know, but I wouldn't as they'll just lick it off.

Let them lick rash with own saliva for now. Maybe a vet check in the morning?

DoloresDelEriba · 04/04/2025 04:02

Yes. But I would use Brulidene

TillyandFlorence · 04/04/2025 04:06

How did your dog get a rash?

I would go with zinc and castor oil cream .

Difficultwill · 04/04/2025 04:14

I know you can’t use dettol so I would not use savlon. I use a tea tree dog cream for rashes but I think you need to get a diagnosis by a vet if you are not sure what caused / is causing the rash. Good luck to you and your dear doggy

Thanks all, yes I will ring vet I was just wondering about something to try and soothe it in the meantime when I put him to bed. I think it’s irritation, he had been licking it. I can’t quite work out what’s happened. It almost looks like he’s stung himself on nettles, the only other thing I can think of is that he launched himself into a peat bog on a long walk and I think that can irritate skin, or possibly sensitive to shampoo but he’s had his most recent one for a couple of months. It’s just on the bald bit under his belly. He’s happy in himself and not overly bothered about it.

If it’s not really bothering him then I would just let it breathe.

MadisonAvenue · 04/04/2025 18:23

Our dog had a rash which wasn’t clearing on it’s own, the vet prescribed the tiniest tube of cream which cost £35 + a consultation fee and didn’t seem to be doing much.
I looked online and saw that Sudocrem, used very sparingly, was recommended so I tried just the smallest smear of it twice daily and the rash was gone five days later.

thecatdidit · 04/04/2025 18:24

I've used sudo creme on my dog to good effect, too.

This, our dog had a very thick coat, as soon as the weather got warm his skin at the bottom of his back above his tail would get scabby, sudocreme always helped clear it up quickly.

StScholastica · 04/04/2025 18:45

Our vet prescribed Malaseb shampoo for a mild rash. Would the dog not lick off sudocreme?

abracadabra1980 · 04/04/2025 18:49

Sudocrem is safe - preferably where they can't lick it. It doesn't sound too bad - as PP have said, let it breathe. I wouldn't even go to the vet unless it's not clearing up after a few days. Piriton can also be used for itchiness; it doesn't address the cause and generally just helps itching because it has sedative properties. Good luck.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 04/04/2025 18:50

Clean the area with dilute hibiscrub, dry and then apply sudocrem

MuttsNutts · 04/04/2025 18:53

Sudocrem is excellent for dogs and I also keep a bottle of this in the cupboard.

Leucillin Natural Antiseptic spray

It’s great for itchy paws or skin rashes or small cuts and grazes. It’s completely safe to use on them, won’t hurt them if they lick it and doesn’t harm the environment either. It smells of chlorine when you first spray it on but as soon as it’s dry it doesn’t smell of anything. And it doesn’t get all over the carpet unlike Sudocrem! Wonderful stuff.

Glorious88 · 04/04/2025 20:21

Thanks all. I ended up ordering the Leucillin after more googling, it’s not as red as yesterday now so just going to see how it goes and make sure I’m rinsing him off properly after walks. Really good to know about the sudocrem though! Our last dog seemed indestructible and never had any issues, but current one seems a bit more sensitive so I’m learning as we go 😂

Our vet recommended Sudocrem

MadameBethune · 04/04/2025 22:15

You can also give a dog a human antihistamine, but check online for the amount, I think a medium sized dog can have half a tablet.
