Can anyone recommend some dog friendly holidays?

Hi I’m planning a UK based holiday this summer and would like some ideas of places people have been to with their dogs. Ideally South coast but would consider anywhere, ddog is a small breed and teen dd would be coming along as well.

Would like to be close to a dog friendly beach if possible.

TIA.

We usually go to Norfolk. Beautiful coastline lots of sandy beaches and plenty of dog friendly places.

Much better than South Coast!

Second North Norfolk. Our dogs love it.

Watching with interest. Stupid question, but are there many cliffs in Norfolk? We’re looking for somewhere to take our dog where he can run free off lead. (For the dog haters out there, don’t worry he’s got excellent recall and is well behaved 😜 we only let him off when there aren’t many people or other dogs around) Pembrokeshire was beautiful but not relaxing as so many walks were on cliff paths!

If you go to Brancaster or Wells/Holkham it's just sand dunes and no cliffs. Both are dogs off lead outside of bird nesting season (April - September)

I'd recommend using Barefoot Retreats if you do though - the other holiday cottage companies in the area are awful.

Again, a vote for Norfolk. Lovely sandy beaches with miles and miles of dog friendly ones. We've stayed at properly dog friendly cottages through East Ruston Cottages, and in Sea Palling in particular was a hit for dogs and teens as the beach is lovely but a nice ice cream/ fish and chip shop/ arcade assortment for teens to pop to

Thanks I will take a look, Norfolk is quite a long way way from us (we live in Somerset) but I have got some friends over that way so could plan to see them as well.

Don't know if this iszsllowed but can wholeheartedly recommend east Ruston cottages -loads of different ones & you csnt get dog friendlier imo.

Pembroke.

Good base for the area so easy access to Tenby, Narberth, Haverfordwest etc.

Pembroke Castle is dog friendly, there are some nice walks around the town.

Rye/ Camber the west beach is not dog friendly in summer but the east is and it goes on for miles

If you have Facebook, I would recommend this group. Plenty of places all across the UK that are really dog friendly not just tolerant.

We've got a little house right on the beach booked in Kent in Seasalter near Whitstable in September, its just the two of us plus a tiny dog. There are few similar properties right on the beach around the Kent coast that are dog friendly. Do check summer access for beaches and dogs though.

This is where we're staying, I'm looking forward to doing absolutely nothing but staring at the sea and walking along the beach https://www.holidaycottages.co.uk/cottage/oc-28800-beach-221?gl=1trlyu8_upMQ..gsMQ..&gclid=CjwKCAjwwLOBhB2EiwAx2e-3xXD-iHMlnsCqlVLIGMpARfoyUJE0ExEt6cN13bFfqlLdva28TYxoCZUEQAvD_BwE

Avoid Dorset, most of Devon and Cornwall. The best place we have found in the Westcountry for being dog friendly all year round is North Devon. Quiet from a people point of view too.

MrsKeats · 02/04/2025 14:28

We also go to Norfolk and use the Blakeney cottage company

DinoLil · 02/04/2025 15:27

Isle of Wight is very, very dog friendly!

GRCP · 13/04/2025 14:30

Just got back from Lulworth Cove - may be the most dog friendly place I have ever been!

stockpilingallthecheese · 13/04/2025 21:32

another vote for east Ruston cottages in Norfolk. The beaches are stunning and so so quiet. The dunes at Winterton are my favourite place, our dogs love it.

Crazyladee · 13/04/2025 21:38

I recommend a website called Pets Pyjamas which specialise in dog friendly hotels around the country.

I’ve had some shocking experiences with them!

Once a panel on a fence in the back garden had blown over (previous occupants noted in their input in the guest book it had been like that when they arrived and BCC had never fixed it despite being asked) and one of my dogs escaped into the field (with livestock) behind - it was just damn lucky my husband noticed.

And let us not forget my personal favourite, where I turned up and the house next door was being demolished - and they knew about it (had been going on all week, apparently) and when I rang to complain and ask for a discount (which is standard practice in the industry) they said no and ‘we couldn’t have known about the works.’ It was the main road, right before the turning to the harbour by the Spar. They would have had to drive past it every day to get to the office. They knew. In comparison, Barefoot rang me three weeks before a holiday once and told me that building works hard started opposite the property I was staying at and they could either offer a 20% discount or move me to another property and reimburse any costs (I.e if I chose a cheaper property).

I have a second home now in Norfolk, and I wouldn’t rent through BCC - even though their fees are about 10% lower than the property company I use charge - because they’re just negligent and awful. Sounds like you’ve been more lucky than me, but I couldn’t ever use them again. Issues happen, but it’s the poor customer service that got me. Although they are haemorrhaging properties at a staggering rate (I like to look at the competition) so perhaps I’m not the only one with a similar story to tell…

Edit: my post will probably get deleted for breaking guidelines, but honestly…they’re so awful that if even one person reads it, it’s worth it!
