Pedigree Cockapoo

I’ve just met a woman with a young cockapoo. It wasn’t the nicest dog, it had a go at my poodle for no apparent reason. Anyway, she assured me that the dog, one of 12 puppies was bred by a friend of theirs who owns a pedigree cockapoo. Is this now possible?

No, a cockerpoo is a cross not a pedigree

AnSolas · 22/03/2025 10:08

No its mut.
The hint is in its abridged double barrel name cock....../a(nd)/ poo...
And her dog has poor social training issues and/or personality issues

KnickerlessParsons · 22/03/2025 10:10

It’s parents may have pedigrees but the puppy is a crossbreed.

babyproblems · 22/03/2025 10:11

😂
it’s irrelevant whether a dog is a pedigree or not - this has zero impact on an animals behaviour. What does have an impact on a dogs behaviour though, is a crap owner!!!

Of course there's no such thing as a pedigree doodle of any type.

We've got a cockapoo. He's a cross breed. He's got a lovely temperament and is usually great with other dogs. That's not because of his parentage but because we socialised him properly and took him to training classes from a very early age.

LandSharksAnonymous · 22/03/2025 10:32

Nope. As PPs said - it’s not a pedigree.

It’s what people say though when they are trying to distance themselves from the stigma that usually (and very often, rightly) goes hand in hand with doodle breeding.

Someone said something similar on a thread on here and I had to bite my tongue and sit on my hands - her Cockerpoo was so needy, she was never going to get another pedigree dog again 🙄

Nopety nopety nope. My Cockerdor is the love of my life, but he ain't a pedigree, he's a mutt, bless him. A crossbreed, with two pedigree parents, but a mutt nevertheless. Most doodles and poos aren't even first generation crossbreeds.

The one possible exception would be an Aussie Labradoodle, which is recognised by the Australian KC, and which is now several generations down the line of breeding, to the point where the outcomes are predictable and recognisably a separate breed. But there's plenty of controversy about them too.

My cockapoo is fab and I love him to bits - but he’s a crossbreed mutt! No crossbreed can ever be a pedigree.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 22/03/2025 19:58

It amazes me how many people think they are a pedigree breed 😁

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 22/03/2025 20:00

They are bloody cute looking things tho

BeakyFlinders · 22/03/2025 20:20

It’s a crossbreed. Or a designer dog. And I would disagree about the breeding not affecting character. Many cockerpoos are puppy farm bred, although of course they’re never advertised as such. We have a rescue cocker (pure bred) who was a puppy farm breeder. She’s the sweetest dog but she was fully assessed by the rescue centre before we brought her home. If a dog is purchased (even unwittingly) from a puppy farm, there may be temperament issues, never mind health or all the other ethical concerns.

Next time he’s a dick, I’m gonna pop up and quote the above at you! 😁

thenightsky · 22/03/2025 20:54

Cockapoo is about as pure bred pedigree as our lurcher! Grin

You’d be like a jack in the box 😄😄

Voldemortifying · 23/03/2025 10:23

Just a mutt then. It wasn’t even a very nice mutt.
