Housetrained dog wees on rugs

We have an adult dog who is fully housetrained. She never wees in the house unless we have a rug down, when she will wee on that, no matter where it is.

It happens if I buy a new rug, no matter what kind. I've tried a few over the years and it always ends the same and I end up throwing them out, as once she has done it, she'll always do it again

Anyone got any suggestions of why this could be, and how I can prevent it?

I have gotten rid of a coffee table and think a lovely, thick rug would look great on the floor but I'm reluctant to buy one as I know what will happen.

I can't think of anything particularly useful but ours (housetrained) cocked his leg next to the (real) Christmas tree and again next to a case of wine in the hall. I could only think that it might be the smell of wood/cardboard. Maybe it's the smell of a new rug - so you might try a second hand one?

Could you try laying a few of the dogs blankets on the floor where you would like the rug to go, then after a few days put the rug down and the blankets on top, then gradually take the blankets away? Stops the rug being new with new smells and the scent of the blankets would probably mingle which would be a signal not to wee?

It could be the scent of the new rug maybe?

Put a leash on her, like you would a puppy and when she is abput to wee, take her out straight away, stay put side until she wees.
I'm sorry, but if she is weeing on rugs, she is definitely not housetrained
